Top 5 Myths About Ghosts

I’ve always enjoyed standing up for misunderstood animals and creatures and maybe part of the reason is because for the majority of my life, with intuitive and sensitive abilities not fully being socially welcome when I was a child, I felt like a misunderstood animal.
So when I started working with Spirits, part of what appealed for me was that I would be able to help perhaps translate the truth for a possibly misunderstood group.
This brings me to a few days ago, I took a call from a client, who had one major, burning question:
"What is it like to see ghosts all the time?"
Unsure to answer, I replied, "Well, I actually don't see ghosts all the time."
Well, there are a lot of misconceptions about what a ghost actually is, what they look like, and how, when or why they appear to humans.
If you've had a spooky or unexplained experience, you aren't alone.
Most people, if they are honest with themselves and others, will admit that at some point in their lives, they've had an encounter.
I also get a lot of inquires about whether or not spirits really do appear with injuries, if only those who are unsettled or angry appear are the ones that hang around, or if there are certain 'witching hours' when there are more ghosts around.
Today, I'd like to clear the air on some of the commonly held beliefs on ghosts.
Top 5 Myths about Ghosts
#5. All Spirits Are Ghosts
Ghosts are actually only one type of the many spirits that exist and visit the earth plane.
While ghosts are actually the most commonly talked about spirit, it is probably because they are the most easily felt by others.
Ghosts are technically classified as human spirits who are still tied to earth - and they are also referred to as earthbound spirits.
Earthbound spirits are humans who, for a variety of reasons, haven't fully crossed over. Whether it be a traumatic death, such that they are unaware of their actual passing and confused, or legitimate unfinished business (such as emotional ties, relationship ties, or property ties), these are spirits are still connected to being on earth.
Because of this connection to earthly matters, and the fact that they are still right here next to us, earthbound spirits 'feel' a lot more like humans do.
They have a heavy, denser energy about them, when compared to human spirits who have fully crossed over (technically called deceased loved ones).
Since ghosts (otherwise known as earthbound spirits) feel so human-like, yet many of us can't see them - they tend to cause feelings of fear.
You feel a human, but oh god, you can't see one!
Additionally, many earthbound spirits DO have fear themselves...generally about crossing over. Thus, if you feel something and feel spooked - it's very likely you are picking up on the fear and worries the ghost may have themselves.
You can help release them of this fear by helping them cross, but that technicality aside,
However, there are MANY other spirits that exist, that do not fit into the category of ghost - as ghost is only one type of spirit that exists - no more or less common than any other spirit.
#4. They Always Appear As White Apparitions
Ghosts, any other spirit can appear as a full bodied, translucent, white apparition - just like you see in the movies - but that doesn't mean they always do.
Becoming visible in appearance takes a ton of energy - especially if you no longer have a body to assist you with being seen. Thus, many spirits don't manifest as a full, white apparition.
For many spirits, appearing as a full apparition just isn't worth the effort nor do they know how do it.
Additionally, if the spirit feels that coming to you as a full bodied deceased person would be horrifying, if they are trying to make a positive impression on you and get invited back (for example, if the spirit were your grandmother), they'll choose a more subtle way to visit.
Spirits, including ghosts, have many ways they can make their appearance known and many reasons for doing so - they can send you signs, make noise, mess with electronics, and appear in your line of sight.
Often, ghosts do NOT appear with their injuries upon death or in the white, wispy way you may expect. For some, they look just like living people.

#3. They Intend To Scare
Ghosts, and any spirit for that matter, can choose to connect with you for virtually any reason.
Most of the time, their intention is the same - to get your attention to deliver a message.
And the best way to catch someone's attention is by surprising them.
Because of this, those in Spirit may try to connect with you when you have no other distractions to bide your time, or when you aren't doing anything particularly spiritual.
Yes, it is true that some spirits think its quite funny to spend their time scaring people.
Ever been to a haunted prison or a haunted hotel?
There are often deceased spirits at places like this who have no affiliation to the property whatsoever, but they really enjoy playing tricks on people and getting a reaction, so they come for the party.
However, for many spirits, this is not their intention.
Loved ones, angels, and guides of yours alike all mostly intend to deliver to you messages, guidance and support - and they do not intend to invoke fear.
#2. They’re Stuck Here
In my eBook on Space Clearing, I talk about the fact that some ghosts choose to stay here...on purpose.
Some to protect, some to finish business they had while alive, some, to well, do other things.
There are 'ghosts' that are indeed wanting and ready to cross over, and there are also ghosts who aren't interested in crossing over at all.
For whatever reason, some spirits want to stay.
Perhaps they are guarding a famous grave, enjoying protecting their family's property, or waiting around for someone else to pass, so that they can cross together - not all ghosts are stuck.
If you happen to have a ghost or a spirit in your space that you would like to show the door (learn how to set boundaries with Spirits here) - you can absolutely make a ghost leave your space, if he or she is bothering you - but you can't make anyone cross over, especially if they aren't ready yet.
#1. There Are Certain Days And Times They Come Out
You often hear that each day there is a time, usually referred to as 'the witching hour' where spirit presence is highest.
And actually, by and large, there isn't a time of more or less spirits, but there are times when the presence of spirit is more easily felt by humans - where the wall separating those that are seen and those that are 'unseen' is very thin, or not present at all.
During these time, the presence of spirit, or those in ghost form, is more easily picked up by humans.
And those who normally don't or can't sense spirit - do.
With certain times of days, such as the early morning hours, where it is believed spirits are more active - it is more true to to say that the human world is more quiet, thus, the subtle energy of spirit is more easily felt.
During these early morning hours, it is quiet, silent, and still on earth, and people, who are awake or sleeping and brought awake, and often not preoccupied with anything else.
Thus, someone is spirit who would like your attention can reach you during this quiet and still time - they will.
So, there you have it. While there are many other misconceptions about those in Spirit, these five are the most common - and now debunked - myths about ghosts.
