Wondering how to sage or smudge a house? In this post we discuss -
When I space clear a home, I always try to keep in mind that it's like cleaning a house.
All houses are different, and each situation is unique, depending on who or what needs to be cleared and where.
White Sage is an excellent tool for space clearing, for clearing lingering low energy.
It works wonderfully in resetting the space to a neutral-clear emotional tone. You can create any mood you want after that.
So I like to use it to reset the mood.
It's great for lifting heavy, low, lingering thoughts, emotions or energies - such as those that have been released in a healing session, a transformative event or during the ascension process/spiritual growth process.
When you sage your space, you’ll release what no longer serves you, dislodging it from your body, and in the residual energy of a nearby space.
You clearing that energy serves everyone.
Everyone wants to feel good and happy, and when you space clear, it allows for more space for this or any emotion to come in.
When a lingering energy dies or is released, something else will grow in its place.
When you clear low energy, it gives way for something else to be invited in.
Sage primarily clears and lifts residual energy, which means it’s more based in thoughts, emotions or memories and it’s not attached to any particular spirit anymore.
In this post, we're going to discuss the practice of smudging, also
called saging, for lifting emotion and energy. All emotions that represent imbalance can be released when you space clear with White Sage.
In this post, we're going to discuss the practice of smudging, also called saging, for lifting emotion and energy.
It makes it easier if you picture it in your mind’s eye as the smoke lifting the energy out of the room, and the energy itself becoming clouds, moving diffusely out of your space.
To begin clearing your space with sage, you need at least 3 tools:
A lighter
An ash tray
A single leaf of White Sage per room of the home or a White Sage Wand
Need a smoke or flame-free process? Use the essential oil version of White Sage in a diffusing wand.
From there, here is my step-by-step space clearing process -
The 6 Steps To An Effective Space Clearing Practice
1 - Intuitively tune in
Gently rest your gaze and ask to psychically be shown what is energetically going on in the house.
Say a prayer or set an intention, and invoke positive energy to fill the space, visualize interactions and energies you want to see in the home.
For example:
For this space, my intention is happiness and joy for all beings and that those in this home feel supported and focused, so we can call in our highest good moving forward.
Or a prayer variation:
I now ask the Divine Beings that watch over me to release all things from this space and assist me in welcoming in only what is best for everyone in this space now.
2 - Gather any other energy tools you’d like to incorporate
3 - Move room to room with your White Sage
Light your sage and place an ash tray under it. If there are flames, wait until the sage starts smoldering with just a stream of smoke.
With your ash tray underneath and any clearing tools you can carry in your pockets or wear as a necklace, walk from room to room, waving the smoke around, while re-stating your intention.
Go through every room slowly and intuitively.
Personally I like to start at the top floor and work my way down in a multi-story home. In a single story space, I start in the farthest room from the front door and work my way towards the exit.
With your sage wand still smoking bring it to the corners of the room, inside cabinets, underneath furniture.
Get that smoke anywhere that feels like the energy could be refreshed.
4 - Release Spirits (if necessary)
Low vibrational Spirits are the reason why saging along may not always work.
If you have a Spirit who is creating the energies you want to release, they’ll just return unless you release any negative Spirits present when you sage too.
If you see, hear or feel any spirit energies as you smudge, chances are you have a spirit present.
If you would prefer it to go rather than have it stay, speak to it, internally and see if you can convince it to cross into the light.
Most Spirits communicate telepathically and can and will cross if you convince them why it's okay.
Cross over any Spirits that need to go into the Light and tell anything lower vibrational to leave.

5 - Final clearing and release
Visualize golden Divine Light shining down through the entire space and imagine it wrapping the entire home in warming, golden light.
Once done, if possible, open the windows to let the energy out. If your sage has not already extinguished itself, please do so now.
6 - Call in positive, loving Spirits
Finally, say an ending intention welcoming in the helper Spirits of the family and/or space.
Welcome in the Spirit Guides, Angels and Loved Ones that support and protect the space. Ask that they keep the vibrational energy high.
Do you feel called to place crystals in spaces that had the heaviest energy?
Now is the time to place your crystals in areas where you feel an energy boost could be helpful.
To recap, to space clear a house:
Set your intention
Grab your space clearing tools
Move from room to room intuitively
Release Spirits
Final Energy Sealing
Call in Angels
So this is the basic, yet flexible, outline for a small space clearing process.
There is an old spiritual teaching that says you should allow the White Sage to smoke as much or as little as it needs to, as the more it smokes, the more clearing is needed.
So if your White Sage goes out before you have finished a room, this may mean that room did not need as much clearing.
Simply re-ignite your White Sage when you enter the next area.
All situations, places, and scenarios are different, so please keep in mind you can be flexible and have fun with it.
