We all have a variety of Spirit Guides who work with us throughout our lifetime and often try to communicate with us and let us know of their presence. Some of these guides come and go, while others stay throughout our entire lifetime, assisting us in following our life path.
Spirit guides, in whatever manner they appear, can:
reveal themselves in meditation
share names with your childhood friends or grandchildren
send signs through numbers, animal messengers or synchronicities
Many of us have more than one guide, and these are the main types.
The 6 Most Common Types of Spirit Guides
1. Protector Guides
Protector guides are strong in manner and character and often have large, strong physical bodies to match.
These guides are often of indigenous heritage to wherever you are living or of your ancestry.
While many are human, protector guides can also appear as large animals such as elephants or panthers. These guides are called upon when you need strength, courage, and bravery ... or to have with you all the time as a spiritual mother or spiritual father to watch over you.
2. Gatekeeper Guides
GateKeeper (Door) Guides are like protector guides, but for the Spirit World. These guides offer physical and psychic protection to all spirit communicators - only allowing higher vibrational energies and the most appropriate spirits to work with you. For more on gatekeeper guides check out more in my article on gatekeeper guides here and Stacey at TarotPugs also has a nice article on them that overlaps some of what you’ll find there, too.
3. Message Bearer (Messenger) Guides
Message Bearer Guides assist us in finding and obtaining information, improving our ability to get, hear, and deliver messages from the spirit world, and in developing clairaudient or clairvoyant skills. Many psychics, mediums, and those who work in the Akashic records use message bearer guides during readings and for the information they provide to others.
While Message Bearer guides are usually humans, they can appear in the form of a bird, usually a hawk or eagle, and often a bird of prey. This is due to their ability to travel great distances in a short amount of time to obtain information quickly and swiftly with little detection.
4. Healing Guides
Healing Guides help us with our spiritual, emotional and physical health.
They are excellent guides for anyone working in a healing profession – such as energy healing or actual surgery, will have a reliable healing guide. Though, we each may connect with a Healing guide to improve our well-being. These guides were often healers in their time on earth and often appear as ancient monks, old world shamans, and spiritual healers on the other side.
Sometimes they appear to people as Mother Mary, Jesus or Archangel Raphael. People do have “high-level” guides like this, however, because the guides themselves would likely be opposed to us calling them high-level, so let’s just say that a popular guide can come to you, and when this happens, it’s likely someone you’ve already been working with or learning about. In the field, we call that being worked on by your guides. And of course, that’s what healing guides would do - work on you first before revealing themselves. It’s a very humble thing.
5. Teacher Guides
Teacher guides help us with our spiritual growth.
They direct you to books you need to read, classes to take, and introduce you to new and necessary physical teachers here on earth. Teacher guides assist us in understanding the philosophical and spiritual aspects of any studies we undertake while on land. Teacher guides help us learn our lessons through action.
I suggest calling on a Teacher guide when you are looking to learn more on your spiritual path and be introduced to teachers, books, and like-minded souls along your way.
6. Joy Guides
Joy guides bring us joy, laughter, and to remind us to lighten up.
Joy guides often appear as children, fairies, or otherwise joking spirits. Going through a difficult time? I suggest calling upon a joy guide to help you discover peace and lightheartedness.
Other Guides do exist, too - and there are:
energy and alchemy guides
power animal and totem guides
earth devas and sprites
and guides that watch over an entire family crew
The descriptions of these are for other days and reside in other posts. You can begin connecting with your guides here.
Once you have established contact with one those of certain higher energies, such as a Spirit Guide with a specialty above, it is a great blessing that you will feel. Just like developing any relationship for the first time, working with spirit guides takes time, dedication, and effort. You may already have an idea of the spirits who walk with you, and hopefully, you do. If you don’t know, the eCourse Open Your Gifts can help identify how you receive and the meditation series, The Spiritual Gateway Meditations can help determine who’s connecting to you. Both of these resources can also found in The Getting Started Kit when you’re looking to jumpstart your connection.
