Wondering how to tell if a deceased loved one is around?

This article goes over the most common signs a deceased loved one is with you, how to recognize signs when they come, and a bit of troubleshooting on what you can do to receive a sign when you aren't getting one, read on -

One of the biggest epidemics in our time is loneliness.

Having The Spirit World around to visit and provide support has been one of my most helpful allies during the times in my life when I have felt the most alone.

So now I write on the ways that The Spirit World can support you when you feel alone.

Whether we're talking deceased loved ones or spirit guides, the signs that a spirit is visiting you can be plentiful, which is one of the reasons why they can be challenging to narrow down.

However, once you begin to notice and pay attention to the patterns in your life, identifying the signs and cues that a deceased loved one is with you just becomes more effortless.

In my previous posts, 10 Most Common Signs From Your Loved Ones, and 12 Signs From Your Loved Ones, I go over a few of the common ways that spirits can visit us.

In this post, I want to talk about the main signs that I've found that come up time and time again of our deceased loved ones visiting.

Before we get into this, I also want you to know that I'm not just writing this post from the perspective of a medium.

I'm writing this post from the perspective of someone who has lost loved ones and who has deceased loved ones in Spirit on the other side with whom I communicate with, too.

Both pets and people can get through from The Spirit World, and no matter whom you have over there, they can reach out and get their messages across.

These messages are called signs. They can be physical/external and intuitive/internal. In this post, we’ll discuss all of these.

So the first step in identifying the signs is knowing how to recognize them when they appear.

Recognizing Signs From Deceased Loved Ones

In readings, deceased loved ones will often identify themselves by things they were known for, while alive.

Was your loved one a problem-solver? Did they like perfumes? Were they someone who loved to play? Was your person an expert in telecommunications?

For the problem-solver they may send us signs to direct us to meet people who would solve our problems. If they like perfumes, you may smell fragrances or be guided to enjoy fragrances.

Telecommunications, expect your electrical lines to act funny sometimes when you take calls. I’ve had Spirit visitors stop phone calls to play songs through the lines.

Our loved ones will often visit us in unique ways that not only let us know we're being visited but ideally, provide us with clues as to who exactly is sending us these signs and visiting when we receive them.

When it comes to recognizing signs, a few key points

  • Be reasonable with what to expect.

  • What you expect for a sign may be different from your son than your husband, due to their personalities.

  • Try to open your mind and allow time for repeating signs (replicable incidents).

  • Make sure you are expecting or looking for signs at the right times.

Spirit likes to provide signs when you are least distracted and most open and most able to receive.

So get yourself there, and you're more likely to get your signs.

Now let's talk about the signs themselves -

The Most Common Signs A Spirit Is Visiting You

The most common sign by far that a deceased loved one is with you is by sensing their presence in the room, and this is sometimes called feeling their presence

After that, dream signs tend to be quite common, and then, the most common signs are:

  • Flashes of light - sometimes blue, sometimes white.

  • Repeating numbers - 111, 222, 333, 444, 555, usually on clocks.

  • Knocks and bangs from other rooms - something falling, drawers moving.

  • Electrical activity - lights fading in and out, unexplained beeps, computer glitches.

  • Seeing an apparition - yes, you might see them, deceased loved ones usually appear as shadows, especially people.

Once you have seen, heard, or sensed some of these things, it's then essential to know why Spirits are sending you signs in the first place.

Outside of external signs, such as flashes of light, repeating numbers and electrical activity mentioned above, most people will also feel when their loved one is with them.

These are called physical body signs, or empathetic signs.

Physical signs a deceased loved one is with you include

  • Body chills

  • Body tingles

  • Feeling a presence in the room

  • Sensing the deceased next to you

  • Seeing a hologram of them in your mind's eye

Why Spirits Send Signs

When you receive a sign, it’s important to know what it means. Here are a few potential reasons why your loved one might send you a sign:

Alerts and Warnings

Some deceased loved ones will send signs to warn you or let you know how they feel of new ventures and business opportunities.

If you get a lot of signs around a new job, depending on how you feel when you receive the sign, can determine if they are letting you know they approve/like it/it’s the right direction for you/in your highest good or not.

When you feel good when a Spirit is present, this is typically a positive sign.

So when people ask, does my husband want me to do this or that? Does he feel like he's brooding when he's around or are you picking up something a bit happier?

You were able to determine this while he was alive and when you get signs from him, he'll be in your presence. So just take a minute to tune-in and pick up what you sense from him.

To show they are supporting you

Spirits will also send you signs to let you know they are around and supporting you.

This is especially true when you are going through painful experiences, in the eye of the storm, or walking through fire.

They will often visit and be extra reassuring by sending more signs when you're experiencing something they can't change because it's essential to your life lessons, though they wish they could.

Getting more signs when you're going through a difficult time is like receiving flowers when you're in the hospital.

The Spirit World wants you to know during those times they are with you more than ever, which is why some people receive floods of signs at once when they're going through something.

Confirmation of a question

Spirits will often send signs to let you know when you're on the right path. We call these trail markers.

Everyone wants validation that they are doing something good, being good, doing things that are in approval with the universe.

However, there are times even when we're on the path, that we don't necessarily have the money to get a reading to obtain confirmation of this.

So when you are on the path, sometimes your deceased loved ones will fill in this role and provide you with their own signs of confirmation and validation, and this usually comes in the form of -

  • Repeating numbers and license plate messages.

  • Linking you up with telepathic people, who can deliver their messages to you.

  • Helping you find the resources you need at the right "divine timing."

Haven't received a sign that your loved one is around?

Whether we’re talking a knock on the floor, a dream or a body chill, it can be frustrating to not receive a sign. Why someone hasn’t received a sign and what they can do to receive one is one of the most common reasons people message me on social media.

So here are some troubleshooting tips on receiving a sign from your loved one:

Has it been at least 8-weeks after their crossing?

Most spirits can visit sooner, and usually can be sensed sometime during the crossing-over window of the 7-10 days. But some can't be detected until after they have fully transitioned and went through their life review

How are you doing with grieving?

Sometimes intense grief can block our ability to sense, especially if our pain and anger sensors are on hyper-alert.

Sometimes it can be easier to receive signs through dreams.

At least, in the beginning, dream visitations, which is another form of a sign that deceased loved ones can use to visit, can be easier to receive.

If you're more analytical and prone to ignore the signs you receive when you're awake, The Spirit World may prefer to visit you and send you messages this way.

To promote dreaming, some people also like to use relaxing crystals, such as Rose Quartz and Angelite, also called Anhydrite, placed by the bed to encourage positive energies, and thus welcoming Spirits to visit you in your sleep.

To recap, 5 definite signs a deceased loved one is near you are

  • Flashes of light

  • Repeating numbers

  • Knocks and bangs from other rooms

  • Electrical activity

  • Seeing an apparition

Dreams and sensing their presence are also common signs.

You can increase the chances of receiving any of these signs by emotionally relaxing, keeping an open mind, and taking care of your grief following the loss.

If you've received any of these signs above, pay attention to what they are. This will give you an idea of how your loved ones are going to continue to communicate in the future.

Once they have something that works, they are more than likely going to continue to communicate this way.

Should you tell anyone you’ve received a sign?

If you or anyone in your family is open to it, I'd share this information on how you received your sign, and what it was. This can give those you know and love, a better idea of what they're looking for, too.

Sharing information on signs you’ve received could help someone you love to feel less alone.

You never know who is looking for a sign out there, and with all of us desiring an increased level of connection, you never know just what type of effect your off-hand sign comment could have on someone you love.

If you do share and notice someone getting squirrelly, pay attention to those cues and back off. Once the message is out there, it's out there, and pressing could cause a person to block it.

I’m sorry for your loss. I wrote some of these articles after processing some of my own losses, and even in doing the work that I do, it’s a change.

If you take anything from this piece, just know that contact is possible and that as long as your open to the modalities, your chances of receiving a sign are quite high -
