Bird Signs & What They Mean
amanda linette meder
I have just a few rules for bird signs and they are:
1. If it's biologically out of the ordinary for that creature. Something that animal doesn't normally do and/or -
2. It's rare meeting for you. If you normally don't have experiences with a creature like this, then...
3. It's either of those + a special moment then it's a sign. Did you feel a moment of connection with this creature? Tingles for a moment? Did time just... pause... when it happened? Did you ask for a special sign and then see a very important bird right after that? Did you notice a moment of them noticing you and you noticing them? Two species appreciating one another?
If you have #1 or #2, plus #3 then it’s a sign!
If you found this article, then it is most definitely a sign.
Bird signs often come to us when we are feeling disconnected from creation. Perhaps we are sad about a missed social connection, our own social awkwardness, the weirdness of life, whatever, and then this is usually when a bird friend (your bird "sign") enters the picture.
Birds are social beings thus they seek social connection. They also enjoy being leaders.
When birds arrive in our life, it is to remind us of our connection to all beings, and it is reminding us once again that friendships with other humans are not the only types of friendships we can have.
Feeling sad today? Well, why don't you outside, and try saying hi to a bird?
Did you know that when they know you are talking to them, they talk back?
It's true. Birds are social beings and enjoy meeting new species. Big and small alike, birds are very curious and aware - as it's necessary for their survival to be so, after all.
Birds are also known to recognize specific faces, going on to teach their children who their friends are in both their own social group and in other social groups, most notably with humans - just based on your face.
Yes, that’s right - adult birds will tell their young ones who a friendly human is, and likewise, who one is not.
So… once you have one bird friend, you have bird friends for life.
You can make friends with birds by talking sweetly to them, singing to them, feeding them, or just being outside with them. Many birds enjoy having a friend in the group to help alert them of predators and likewise for you - as birds will also have your back, and let you know when something is near that you need to be aware of.
Generally, though, to have a bird sign come to you, there is nothing you need to do.
Birds will take interest in you far before you take an interest in them.
Birds also tend to like 'cat people.'
Are you a cat person?
If you are a cat person, cat people are highly spiritual and empathetic think: the Goddess Isis has a best friend, who is a cat, both act as paired gateways to spirituality. There is a reason for this symbolism, folks, but also birds are similarly empathetic creatures. Remember, birds are social, so thus, understanding the needs of others in their community is a highly valued trait among birds and they'll connect with other social species for this reason.
Of the top two animal experiences of my life, both were with birds.
One, just a few mornings ago.
In the mornings, I have a tendency to feel sad and get existential about life. This is all mornings.
But on this particular morning, right when I was feeling "prime" sad, a large prehistoric bird flew down from the tops of the forest trees and sat across from me on a log in my fire circle.
It was a bird I’d longed to see up close up but never had before.
I'd been consciously working on being friends with this bird and now, here he was.
Sitting in front of me, blinking at me, tilting his head, observing my crying, watching me and studying everything about me and my ways and my looks, right across from me, on the floor of the fire circle.
On opposite log, he sat. And when he felt like he'd finally gotten enough me - a creature as safe and vocalizing, but not a threat to him, as someone close enough to fly down next to and be safe near, he flew off...
And I felt... better.
Animals understand vulnerability and especially birds. They are social and bonding species and thus have the capacity to bond with other species. Birds cheer up humans in this way. By helping you to understand and know your capacity for bonding doesn't have to only include humans. Birds help make this connection for us.
So to recap on bird signs:
Unique bird sightings that tend to happen when you are more connected to your emotions than normal, then this is normally a sign.
Birds are empathetic creatures, thus will appear to others who are also more empathetic in nature around whom they feel safe. So if you are looking for a bird sign, get in tune.
When you have a unique experience with a bird, and they likewise with you, remember this has often come as a reminder to you that you are to seek and see only beauty in other creatures, and to remind you that there is more to life than your own suffering. That so many other creatures have awareness for you and with you and that now is the time to open yourself up to this possibility.
Birds are so aware of us, that they often come into the life of their people as awareness teachers.
It is no surprise that many mediums, intuitive, teachers, and authors tend to have their main guide as a bird. Birds also serve as messenger guides and mediumship guides in shamanic journeys and readings, as they are so good with communication.
So next time you are feeling sad, existential, or disconnected, birds notice and they'll hop down into your life or fly in front of your car, as if to say,
Look... what's wrong you? I'm here... but are you? Let's get on with it, shall we? Follow me!
You are here. You're still reading this post, you poet. And that means you are following the right direction. You always know when are on the right path if more of these types of experiences are happening to you, too. So keep an eye out!!
Birds are communal species meaning their survival, in part, is due to their empathetic awareness of others, as is yours. So you are kindred spirits. If a bird comes to you, it is a reminder that you have friends in all places - high and low. And to utilize these friendships. Don't let it pass away.
Ravens, crows and magpies are scientifically known for their empathetic intelligence, but don't doubt other birds savvy just because they've managed to evade human study.
Perhaps they too, are far smarter than we.
