Would you ever go out to a local bar in your neighborhood and talk to strangers with a blindfold on? Would you ever answer the telephone and continue talking to a caller who never identified himself? Would you continue to communicate with a complete stranger, after you already got creepy vibes from them? No?
Well, then why would it be any different when working with Spirit?
It’s not -
In the Spirit World, not everything is filled with roses and cupcakes. Most things are - but not all. Just like in the human world, pretty much everyone you meet is a respectable citizen who means well, is doing their best and will help a person in need when called upon to do so.
Sadly though, not everyone is this way. Likewise, in the Spirit world, there are Spirits out there who will take advantage of those who are vulnerable, unsuspecting, and lacking the street smarts of Spirit Communication.
Before we get started, I just want to be really clear -
Most of those you will meet on the Other Side fall into a few categories - none of which are ‘evil’:
These are what are typically referred to as Light Spirits.
There is another small category of Spirits, called Dark Spirits. Dark Spirits are those whose intention is to bring out lower emotions, thought, and actions within you and the world around (fear, anger, jealousy).
Light Spirits are those whose intention is to bring out higher emotions, thoughts, and actions within you and the world around (love, compassion, joy).
It is the Light Spirits who 99.9% of all mediums strive to communicate and connect you with.
It is the Angels, the Spirit Guides, and the Deceased Loved Ones who have crossed over and are living in the Divine Light that is Heaven, whom mediums, like myself, seek to connect their clients with.
All mediums have to learn how to identify who is Light and who is Dark - so they know for sure that they are doing what they intend to be doing.
Discernment is important in the Spirit World.
Determining where the message is coming from, is just as important as what the message is.
Learning who you are speaking with will:
Help you stay safe
Help you start to build relationships with those in Spirit you do want to communicate with
Help you end relationships with those whom you don’t want to communicate with
Just like in the human world, your time, your energy, and your attention are precious resources. You want to spend them wisely with those worth connecting with - and you can only assure that you are communicating with those who you want to be communicating with, but identifying who they are.
I talk more about discernment in the eBook, The Spirit Identification Key, but just for a quick overview, please read below.
How can you tell who you are communicating with?
Step 1. Learn the Differences between Light and Dark Spirits
This way, you can begin to learn the differences in how they act, feel, and behave. I have plenty of articles on my blog for that, but here is a good place to start.
Learning the most distinct differences between these two groups will give you a nice, broad place to start.
Step 2. Identify How Spirit Feels to You
Most people can further narrow it down by sensing the presence of Spirit. You may feel cold, hot, sense a breeze, a touch, or a shift in energy in some way. These differences are meaningful. Light and Dark Spirits tend to feel collectively different from one another.
After that, individual Spirits have individual feelings that they give people to mark their presence - these are called ‘calling cards’. A calling card can be best described as a signature phrase, saying, or action that someone always does - and you know it’s them for sure. We learn about these in our mediumship classes and I have articles on this in The Membership Program.
Step 3. Set an Intention
This is sometimes called saying a prayer or an invocation for Spirit.
Do you plan to welcome in and communicate with Spirit? Want to open up a channel, get out the dowsing rods and start asking questions?
Before you open up a portal, make sure you say an invocation for who is and who is not welcome to come through it into your space. It’s kind of like opening the doors of your house to have a party - is everyone in the city welcome, or just a select few who won’t disrespect the house?
You get to decide who walks through those doors. So, make sure you do. Learn how, here.
Step 4. Set Boundaries
You can choose who you communicate with and when, in what places and where - these are called boundaries and most mediums have them - a set of rules determining who they will and will not communicate with, which, once defined and written out, the majority of Spirits will abide by. It’s like having a set of rules for a club house - most guests will advise these rules, if they know what they are.
So, set your boundaries with Spirit, and define who you are willing to communicate with and who you are not willing to communicate with here.
Step 5. Find a communication method that works for you.
I prefer direct communication.
That is, using my intuitive senses of clairaudience, clairvoyance, and clairsentience to receive information from the Spirit present. We all have intuitive abilities, and once developed, we can all use these to communicate with, and have information transferred to us from Spirit.
To communicate with those in Spirit, I would suggest using a device where you can ask yes-no questions, such as dowsing rods, a pendulum, a white noise spirit radio, or a voice recorder. This way, if you aren’t using your intuitive abilities, you are still able to receive definite answers as to who you are communicating with and what they have to say.
Identifying who you are communicating with in Spirit is just as important as identifying who you are communicating with in the Human world. You can keep yourself safe and free of harm, develop beneficial relationships, identify the good guys and have the ability to walk away from all else.
