Love is an energy state, a feeling that you can hold on purpose.

You can tell when Love is present when you feel a sense of total acceptance, completeness and contentment for a certain point of focus.

You can hold this feeling for: all that is, another person, animal, thing and yourself.

Self love is the best love because it is the only form of love you can continuously guarantee that you’ll receive in this lifetime.

It is the most long-lasting form of love, the most omni-present form of love, and the most readily accessible form of love that you can rely on at any moment.

When you love yourself, you may notice these benefits:

  • A sense of total acceptance for who you are right now

  • A sense of gratitude and respect for your journey so far

  • A sense of excitement and peace for your future self’s path

  • An overall feeling of present-moment contentment

  • A lightness in your heart center and central meridian energy body

One of the best ways to love yourself is to talk kindly to yourself using your inner voice.

We each have an inner dialogue that can run like a wild horse at times.

As an act of self-love, you can tame this voice and redirect its powerful energy towards yourself by saying loving thoughts to yourself.

To begin a practice of loving self talk:

Anytime you notice your mind having an upsetting or distressing inner dialogue, you can say to yourself,

“Alright, thank you, that’s enough negative talk for now. I want to think about something loving and uplifting for the next few moments. Inner being, what is a loving idea?”

Then see what comes into your awareness.

It may be a reminder to finish your cup of tea or have a cup of water, a pleasant memory from the recent past, something delicious you just ate for a meal, or a pleasant piece of news recently shared with you.

After that, here are a few more ideas on how to love yourself:

Finally, another great way to love yourself is to do a self love day.

Growing up, these were called “mental health days” in my family.

In the movie, YES DAY, it is called “a yes day” and you say yes to what the heart desires all day.

Whatever you call the day of joy, once a week or once a month, spend an entire day doing whatever creative impulses light the spark in you.

Visit a shop you’ve passed while commuting and always meant to go in.

Go to a touristy area near you that everyone loves.

Spend an entire day finishing unfinished projects that you meant to get to.

Read your unread stack of books in bed all day or rearrange your hobbyist collection.

Whatever you do, a self love day is a day where you only do what you want to do and it can cost nothing at all.

These are just a few ideas on how to love yourself.

You know yourself better than anyone in the world, so only you know what will work best to love yourself.

Take a few of these ideas and use them as jumping off points or inspirations leading you to what brings in that sense of love with yourself and perhaps also, all that is, other people, animals and things.

No one has to know what thoughts, practice, exercise or activity brings you into a state of loving yourself. That’s the beauty of it. It can be a totally personal and sacred thing, if you would like it to be.
