Understanding Reiki & Mediumship

Gateways To Divine Light

Updated 2022.07.14

Reiki is a Japanese tradition that focuses on teaching Reiki practitioners to draw down spiritual energy from the Divine Oneness, through the human body, to funnel relaxing energy and light onto the world around.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and “Ki” which is life force energy.

So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

Reiki is an energy work technique based on the principle that the practitioner can channel Divine energy into the patient by means of energy transfer to activate the natural restorative processes of the client's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

Mediumship is the ability to channel a Divine energy more loving, supportive and wise than yourself, and it is relaying and transferring the energy received from this Divine energy to those that you work with.

The Reiki practitioner is the medium, the link, between the Divine and Another - simply a conduit of Divine and Spiritual Source energy.

Reiki is a form of channeling light, or mediumship.

In Reiki, the practitioner is attuned to specific energy and vibrations, as taught through a variety of symbols. In the process of learning how to channel Reiki energy (Divine Light) though the body, each new practitioner is attuned by another practitioner, often a teacher, who has learned and been attuned by another beyond them.

Anyone can be attuned to Reiki.

What does it mean to be ‘attuned’ to Reiki Energy?

It means that your chakras are manually opened, namely your crown, heart and palm chakras with the assistance of human teachers and Spirit Guides to re-start, jump or re-start the flow of Divine energy through your body through ceremony, meditation and the delivery of vibrational light and symbols.

As a faucet is turned on and opened to the flow of water after a long, hard winter, often, the re-opening of the chakras to the flow of spiritual light can take a ‘jump start’ or hard twist.

Once the flow is opened, the soothing light of the Divine, of the Reiki energy, can flow through you continuously and forever, as long as you, from time to time, turn on the faucet.

Once you are attuned to Reiki energy as a teacher, you are forever able to channel this energy through your body and deliver it to the world around you, as long as you continually practice flowing Divine Energy through your body.

If for some reason you fall out of practice, your chakras can be re-opened by self practice, working with another energy practitioner or receiving another attunement/chakra opening ceremony.

As a Reiki practitioner, you learn how to direct Reiki energy to yourself and to people, places, objects, plants and animals around you.

Using your own body as a conduit, you are sending The Golden Light of the Divine to all those you encounter.

In essence, allowing yourself to be a conduit for the Divine is the definition of mediumship.

Learning and becoming attuned to Reiki is a gateway to many spiritual services such as shamanism, spiritual mediumship or prayer.

Many spiritual mediums (those that deliver messages) are also trained in Reiki, as it can be the gateway to reopening the flow of Divine Light.

You can choose to develop your abilities to channel Divine energy in any way you wish. Reiki is one such way, thus, a form of Mediumship.

Regardless of if Reiki energy is delivered through touch or through voice, delivering Divine Light Energy to the world around is the purpose of all mediums.
