Have an itchy throat? Are you wondering the metaphysical meaning of coughing? Is coughing an ascension sign?

When I was in my twenties, I went on a research trip to Ecuador to study the food systems of the jungle compared with the food systems of the mountainous north.

At the time, there was a limited transfer system between the people growing crops in the lowlands of the country's rural parts and the people growing plants at high altitudes.

Everyone up on the mountain was eating tons of roots and other cold-weather foods, and everyone down below was eating a ton of fruit.

If a stable transfer system could be implemented, all parties would have all the nourishment they needed.

While there, as researchers were trying to figure out how everyone could eat and trade foods, some of us met with Shamans. Considered the leaders of the communities, we heard their philosophies on what would bring balance to the community.

What I learned on that trip was that food distribution is a lot more complicated and involves deeper social issues than merely arranging a truck to go back and forth.

I also learned that some physical problems are not entirely spiritual and vise versa. 

I happen to agree with the idea that not everything has a spiritual origin, and some of it could be vector related.

All this to say, all systems are connected. If you have an imbalance anywhere in the mind-body-spirit, it is usually a sign. Something needs to be addressed.

Now that we've addressed all things being cyclical let's discuss the potential spiritual origins of a cough. If you have a tickle in the throat or a dry cough, and there is no explainable physical reason for this, something Spiritual may be happening.

- In my work, I've found when Spirit wants to speak through you. Often, they'll attempt to tap into your energy through your Throat Chakra.

Spirit may be attempting to speak through you - through your clairaudient abilities. There may be other aspects of yourself wanting to be heard.

Governed by the Throat Chakra, clairaudient abilities are in the energetic center of your body responsible for speaking your truth clearly and hearing the truth of others.

Within the energetic center of the fifth Chakra, the throat, you can share what you genuinely feel. You also can hear the real and genuine feelings of others. So a tickle in the throat can also represent a Throat Chakra block.

• Give yourself the time, space, and attention to begin to listen to those in Spirit around you

If you believe a Spirit is linking in with you and causing this tickle, tune in.

Hearing Spirit begins as hearing a buzzing, a ringing or a popping in your ears. It can also start as hearing short, direct, and brief voices in your head.

Some people feel a tickle when Spirit is attempting to connect with their energy.

Spirit can enter into your energy space and merge just ever so slightly with you.

While here, Spirit can say the words of the Divine right from your mouth, or if you are writing, deliver them right from your own hands.

• Have you ever given an eloquent speech to someone that you knew was good, but right after, you have no idea where that came from or how you knew that?

• Have you ever sat down to explain something, and when you thought you were going to write just a sentence, it turns out, you had at least three paragraphs fly out of you?

• Have you ever given a big speech, or prepared to share your feelings with someone, only to right before, not be able to stop coughing, needing a glass of water or a cough drop?

These are all signs you may be able to channel a Higher Source, your Spirit Guides, and Angels to deliver clairaudient messages. 

Any energetic agitation in the Throat Chakra is a sign of a large amount of energy looking to connect.

Meaning, the tickle could be Spirit attempting to speak through you, or it could be your Higher Self needing space to talk and alerting you.

It is common for spiritual healers to have their bodies alert them when it is time to rest and that everyone needs downtime to recover. There is even something called a Spiritual Flu, which discusses the body's concept of creating something to help it pause.

If you are the healer in your family, know that balance is assured for you.

Set reasonable boundaries with your loved ones and treat yourself lovingly. Others in your family will begin to follow suit, too.

These are a few of the spiritual hypotheses on what a tickle of the throat means. Think about which resonates with you.

A tickle in the throat can be your body speaking to you, which is your Spirit speaking.

It can also be another Spirit attempting to communicate through you.
