Messages from Spirit come through so fast, it is impossible to catch and process it all in a single sitting.

Many people like to record their readings, either so they can go back through and listen to things they missed the first time around, or to re-live the emotions and the moment.

Aside from this, there are benefits and drawbacks to having your reading recorded and not having your reading recorded.

Below I go over the pros and cons from the perspective of both parties on recording a reading with a psychic medium -

As The Client - Why record?

With a physical recording, you don't have to take notes during your session! With a recording of your reading, you are free to relax during your session, and simply be present to soak it all in.

Many mediums believe that it takes a minimum of 2 weeks to fully process the information contained in a single reading. Though, really deep readings can take years.

Much like a good book, having a reading recording allows you to go back through the messages contained later - at a different stage of your life, allowing you to really see how much of what was said, really did come true.

Why choose to not record a reading?

When you re-listen to your messages, some feel the energy of Spirit is no longer present in it and feel the magic is gone. Because 'the magic' is gone, the replay may not feel the same way it did the first time in the live link.

Listening to a recording of contact with the Divine can feel like the difference between your visit to the Grand Canyon, and looking at photos of your visit later. Some feel it simply isn’t the same.

On top of that, with a recording, you may be more tempted to allow another person to listen to your reading.

In doing so, it is possible that without the magic of Spirit present with them or without the intimate knowledge of your life - their energy may shift it or diminish it, in turn, taking the reading's magic away from you.

As The Medium - Why record?

A physical recording is a tangible keepsake you can give to your client after their session is complete. While the reading itself is technically the gift, a recording is an object they can use to remember the event by, which can make the experience more tangible.

With a physical recording, you can review your reading after the reading is complete from an observational standpoint, and use the knowledge you gain to improve your techniques for future readings.

You can verify that the session actually took place and submit it as evidence in the rare event of a chargeback.

Keep in mind, though: you don’t always need an audio recording for your evidence, sometimes any physical recording of the event taking place is fine, a confirmation email or a written statement of consent, such as the request for a reading and then the purchase.

Another reason to record as the medium is you can study your practice, find out if your voice changes, or if your mannerisms change when you channel different energies, and then use that information to better your practice.

It also allows you to simply see your reading from the client’s perspective, and then you can make adjustments as needed for a better experience for all. For example, you may observe patterns of when you get fatigue, which can help you time how long your private readings are for optimal performance throughout.

Why not record?

The argument against allowing recordings is that it is technically possible client recordings and snippets thereof have been used by radio shows, skeptics, out of context, and cat-fishers to be disrespectful to psychics, mediums, shamans and oracles.

To end, for many, the choice is yours to record.

There are positive reasons to do it and positive reasons to not do it, it all depends on if you will listen to it, as a client for a keepsake, or, if you want to protect yourself from potential client fraud or to study yourself, as the medium.

It's such a helpful resource for some clients, and on the medium's end, it is good practice to keep record of your client transactions, for legal purposes, if anything.

On a personal level, when I am receiving readings given to me by others, I do use the recordings, even just to see how much I’ve grown since taking the advice in the session and I do offer complimentary recordings by request for my personal clients for that reason.

Finally, on a legal level, if you are recording a reading, check your state laws, and make sure to let everyone know so they can agree. Depending on where you live, recording without consent from those on the call may be illegal, so if you are recording your reading for any reason, state it clearly and upfront.
