Most people, when they're starting out developing their psychic abilities, wonder what it's like living full time as a professional psychic.

When I was first starting out as a professional psychic medium, I would frequently get asked the question,

"What is it like for... someone like you?"

Personally, I've been seeing the Spirit World since I was around four years old and lived a fairly standard, academic loving life until about 28 when I graduated from a professional degree.

At the time, I had been doing readings on the side when completing my thesis when I was offered a job working for a spiritual website and developing my own website.

I expected only to be working doing readings for a little while, then eventually get a job back in my degree.

That was almost seven years ago now, and much of my life is the same. I still run data analysis, I again edit papers, and I even teach classes, just in another field.

Just sometimes, I now take consultations that involve this thing I have known about for a very long time.

People have exciting perceptions of what it means to be a medium - someone who can see, hear, and communicate with the non-physical.

The main thing that I've had to wrestle with that's different from before is the evolving public perception of my abilities, which have, at times, caused, a variety of emotional reactions in people I have met.

Many mediums feel that because most have had to hide their gifts for periods of their life, that their gifts generally make their lives more complicated.

Though, I've found, once you beat through all the public opinions of your abilities and focus on helping others, doing a good job, and avoiding listening to those who are uncomfortable with evolving universe theories, life is pretty good.

I've learned a few things about what it's like as a medium out of the closet. And I want to share them with you below.

10 Things To Know About Being A Medium

#1

The gifts can make life more enjoyable. You have hunches, and when you follow them, it's exciting to see them workout later on.

#2

It's more challenging to explain your gifts to the people in your life than it is to embrace them yourself.

People have a variety of comfort levels with mediumship, and this is evolving. I find that explaining your gifts to people only to the point that it hurts you is the best you can do.

It's better to embrace it within and move away from hurtful opinions, and as you do that, you gravitate towards people who value you.

#3

Business as a medium is business. I have a course on how you can improve your business here, but if you go into business doing this, you do work. You do analysis, and you do other usual job stuff throughout your day, like spreadsheets.

#4

You do need at least one other understanding person in your life to make it work overtime.

Most psychics I know have secret fans and supporters who show up out of nowhere to provide a hand with promotion or even other business stuff.

#5

Back in the day, some mediums were feathered, tarred, and otherwise mistreated by crowds.

To this day, the Universe is still evolving.

Some people may treat you, look at you, or talk to you like you're a vaudeville act. This is currently evolving to be less and less, but if it happens, it can be jarring. As a medium, you do try to understand most people are really trying their best, and try to avoid taking offense.

#6

Once people find out what you do, they either become part of your life, or they walk away. Having this gift and getting it out of the way that that's what you do, can be an exceptional gauge of finding good friends, faster.

#7

You will probably be tasked with keeping some secrets. Mediumship and connecting with non-physical energy often means discussing things that have yet to manifest or may never manifest at all.

This means that sometimes you will be talking about hidden, personal stuff with others. Having a good relationship with Spirit and your Guides and a strong ethics statement will help you in keeping this confidentiality.

#8

Having these abilities does lend itself to a lot of interesting conversations and meeting a lot of fascinating, exciting folks.

As a medium, be prepared to talk about black holes or quantum physics and learn something. If you're open to learning new things and kind of a nerd, it could be an excellent job for you. You get to learn a lot.

#9

Being a psychic medium isn't necessarily a job, though it can be.

It's like being a good listener, you could turn that into a job, but you could also weave that gift into many situations and have it make a difference.

#10

You become freer from opinions over time.

After you read enough energy, the Universe shows that we are all the same, and our concerns, are all one. We all have the same needs and desires and are all sorting out variations of the same wishes.

You also become more accepting of others through this.

As a psychic medium, you become more open and accepting of others, and more resilient to the thoughts of those around you. And as long as you stay committed to your purpose, whichever purpose Spirit has tasked you to do, you do get to chase dreams, usually a few.

Lots of people are psychic mediums who keep their visions, feelings, and thoughts to themselves. But now with the internet and information becoming more available, more and more are coming out of the closest, which is a good thing.

Sometimes you are awoken with revelation and insight. Sometimes you receive sudden guidance from Spirit. So if you are in a relationship, it helps to have a supportive partner. All of this is part of the journey and helpful.

The longer that I do this publicly, the more respectful people have generally become towards me.

So with all the above, know if you are in an environment that isn't currently supportive of your gifts, this can change, your whole life can change if you want it to.
