Looking for a ghost tour in Berks County, Pennsylvania? I love an excellent, history-focused ghost tour, and in the Brinton Lodge in Douglassville, PA hits all the spots. Informative, and plenty of time to roam and investigate.

Ever since I moved to the Philadelphia area six years ago, I've been going to ghost tours all over the area, intending to do at least one tour a year.

This year we decided to visit the Brinton Lodge in Douglassville, PA.

The estate that has gone through many hands over the years, it now operates historical tours and is also home to a microbrewery, Hidden River Brewing Company

Alongside the Schuylkill River, The Brinton Lodge runs as it has for many years, as an entertaining spot for guests and visitors of all kinds.

In the past, the Lodge has hosted Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, and Benny Goodman, and it has also operated as a brothel.

As you can see from the photos, it's a beautiful estate to host guests -

About The Tours

There are historical and ghost-themed tours that run every weekend at Brinton Lodge, and they last for about two hours. The first hour is the educational portion where you receive a tour of two of the main floors of the home.

The second hour of the tour, they let you loose to explore the inside of the estate and wander around on your own.

Lodge owners provide EMF readers and Copper dowsing rods for the second portion, and we brought a low-light camera and a voice recorder. You are welcome to bring your own equipment.

If you are new to using the equipment, our guide gave some great dowsing rod suggestions:

Wait about 60 seconds after asking with the rods before you give up because sometimes it takes Spirit a second to muster up the energy to respond. And I found this to be true.

I felt it took a few seconds sometimes before you could start feeling some external force beginning to push and wiggle the rods.

If you are bringing your own rods, I suggest Copper for dowsing rods over Steel for Spirit Communication, because Copper has a higher electrical conductivity and lower resistance over Steel, making them easier to move for subtle energies.

There are four floors to the home, including the basement, and some rooms are off-limits because they're still in use as a restaurant.

There are also private tours. We decided to attend a public tour for this one because I enjoy the energy of a group and I hope to do a private tour in the future.

Is it Kid Friendly?

This is an indoor tour, which tends to be safer for children than walking street tours, I feel, and kids are welcome and were present on our tour.

The house operated a club and a brothel and there was a lovemaking group nearby for part of its history. This is all explained on tour in detail. Also described: a variety of soul transitions on the property, some of them grim.

As long as you are okay with the discussion of some of this adult and occasional grisly content, I would say yes.

All in all, the tour was fun, educational, and I especially enjoyed the time to explore and communicate with Spirits. That's rare in an old mansion - that they just let guests run around. So if you are in the area, I would take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

Here are a few photos we took of the experience:

So, is Brinton Lodge haunted?

There was definitely plenty of opportunities to test how clairsentient and clairvoyant you may be, with all the residual and Spirit energy present in the home.

When you visit, see if you can sense the room affected by the most soul transitions, as I definitely felt energy present.

Also, I would suggest watching out for the main staircase. Someone died falling down these stairs, and other visitors have felt pushed. On our tour, a man did fall down the stairs, but he was okay.

Feeling something while there?

The Lodge seemed very open to the validation of the historical records through spiritual and mediumistic input.

This is different from some tours that I've been on, which seem to favor recorded evidence over mediumistic, but this group appears to be open to all, which I found very welcoming and loving.

Ultimately, you must be the judge, though I did feel the energy and see things clairvoyantly while there. We also got some friendly call and response activity with the provided dowsing rods.

There's also a brewery attached, for eating and imbibing before you embark on your journey. Too much imbibing, and you may be escorted out, so be careful there.
