Spiritually healing places in the United States -

Looking for places to go that will expand your horizon, while invoking awe and inspiration? Somewhere new to go? A fresh perspective?

There are lots of healing places in the United States and plenty of spiritual places to visit, and from people to places, I've compiled a list of must-see travel destinations and spiritual vacation spots for the intuitively open and inclined.

Below you will find fourteen travel destinations for the spiritual-minded, starting with the first one -

1. Mount Shasta

A very spiritual place with legends and vortices galore. For a while there, I wrote blogs from a cabin that overlooked the peak of Mount Shasta.

It's just as powerful and magical as everyone (including NPR) has said. I suggest visiting during the wet season in the late spring-early summer.

2. Pennsylvania Grand Canyon

Viewable from the Leonard Harrison State Park in beautiful Potter County, PA, this is one of the most majestic overlooks along the eastern sea.

You can hike many areas of the canyon, which is rich with water and wildlife. As a plus, one of the darkest sky-gazing parks in the United States is only a few miles away.

Looking into the physical and celestial abyss in the same weekend is a spiritual experience. If you are traveling out of town, consider staying at The Frosty Hollow. We stayed there and loved it. However, I know camping is also an option during the warmer months.

3. The Integratron

Take a sound healing bath at the most acoustically sound building in the world. While there, I suggest visiting Giant Rock and Joshua Tree National Forest.

It’s one of the only national parks where you can visit two desert ecosystems during one visit.

4. Linville Gorge

Located in North Carolina, this mountain wilderness contains some of the oldest growth forests (read: never been logged) in the world.

Virgin forests, like raw, natural crystals, have incredible healing and centering energy.

5. Holy Chimayo

Near Santa Fe, NM, each year, over 300,000 people visit Chimayo and get some of its healing soil (also known as "holy dirt"), located in the center of the adobe structure.

The National Park Service has called it one of the most important pilgrimage centers in the United States.

6. Cassadaga

Cassadaga is home to more psychic mediums per capita than any other city in the United States. A place where the veil is thin and the spirit energy strong, Cassadaga is a mecca.

If you are a medium yourself, keep in mind, experiencing some spirit energy while in Cassadaga, is to be expected and if you can't make the trip, check out their sister location, Lilydale.

7. Cherry Springs State Park

Known as one of the darkest spots on the eastern seaboard, during some parts of the year, it’s possible to see the Milky Way horizon line to horizon line.

While in the area, make sure to also check out the Pine Creek Gorge, also called the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania by visiting the overlook at Leonard Harrison State Park.

8. Monument Valley

Monument Valley is one of the most majestic places on planet Earth, and it is a sacred site in The Navajo Nation, AZ.

The landscape has been a background to countless Western Movies, as this site draws feelings of awe and inspiration in all peoples.

Also, it's an energy vortex. Some of the best locations in the valley are only accessible when accompanied by a traditional Navajo Guide.

9. Salem Mass

Salem, Massachusetts (known to some as Witch City USA) is home to many spiritual landmarks, and one of the most well-known group transitions to The Spirit World of spiritual women in North America.

In 1692, 19 women and 1 man were tried and hung for witchcraft, trials that were later declared unlawful by the magistrate. Witchcraft is now widely celebrated in the city.

The nearby village of Danvers was home to the scene of the outbreak.

To learn more, check out visitors' information for the Salem Witch Museum here.

10. Bighorn Medicine Wheel

Constructed over 700 years ago and still in use, located on public lands and available for visiting during the summer months due to elevation.

This medicine wheel sits atop Medicine Mountain, this wheel is one of the most well-studied and best-preserved, and managed by the Bighorn National Forest.

11. The Stardreaming Temples

Sixteen open-air temples and labyrinths span 22-acres in the New Mexico Desert.

Each temple is oriented to specific stellar, lunar or solar alignments and all include unique healing, transformation and spiritual energy.

The Temple of Magic was featured in the documentary, For the Next 7 Generations. Stardreaming limits visitors to 10 per day, and reservations are required.

12. The Arizona Vortexes

In and around the Sedona, Arizona area, you'll find four distinct energy vortexes.

They contain healing energy for your feminine side, your masculine side, the balance of the two and balancing universal energy.

The vortexes are famous worldwide, and open to the public via relatively easy hiking trails.

13. Hudson Valley, NY

Many artists reside here due to the natural beauty of the area, so there is lots of creative energy for inspiration.

Home to Woodstock, Cold Springs, Ballston Spa, New Paltz, Saugerties, and Rhinebeck hosts the annual spiritual summer camps known as Omega

I suggest starting a Hudson Valley tour with a trip with Woodstock, which hosts one of my favorite bookstores on the eastern Coast, Mirabai.

Then, hopping across the river to Rhinebeck and seeing what is happening that weekend. I recommend following @enjoyrhinebeck on Instagram for happenings.

If Rhinebeck is your basecamp, there is a local natural grocery store within walking distance to any shop right in town if you need something to eat.

The forest around Rhinebeck is dense, so cell-phone service beyond the town is spotty - make sure to check your map before heading on to your next spot in the valley. Also, know you can use the Hudson River as your guide to where you are.

14. The Black Hills And Badlands

Sacred Land for the Lakota - Sioux, the first settlers of the area, the Badlands are a geologic formation that leads into the Black Hills Forest, in an area spanning both South Dakota and Wyoming.

Both areas are sacred and within day-driving distance of each other.

Vision quests are common at landmarks Devils Tower and Bear Butte, and various Sage species grow wild in many areas.
