The Debate On Natural Gifts: Are Mediums Born Or Made?

I believe that at the core, we are all Spirit.
I believe that in the center of who we are is a Soul.
And I believe that because at the center of who we are is Soul and Spirit, we all have the ability to connect with those who are equal in Spirit.
I believe we can connect with others in the non-physical and others in the physical at the soul level.
I believe that as Souls on this Earth, we all have gifts that we are born with, to share and manifest them into the world and as we grow, evolve, and develop in this lifetime. Those gifts are slowly unwrapped, illuminated, and unearthed.
I believe that’s our job on this planet to find out what our gifts are and manifest them, and I think they change from time to time.
I also believe that just like any natural element, there’s a tumbling process that one undergoes. For each raw, natural rock to really shine and manifest in all its beauty.
For Spiritual Gifts to be unearthed, I believe there is a specific process of “digging them up” and washing them off that has to happen.
I believe in an awakening process to connecting to spirit.
It is true that all of the most powerful “natural” mediums I know have undergone some tumbling process.
Whether that was a difficult childhood, the loss of a loved one, or a series of tumultuous relationships - all of these things clear off our darkness and bring us closer to the light, which in turn, often means a connection to spirit.
I believe Spiritual Gifts can be opened at any age, especially after such an awakening experience:
A physical or spiritual trauma
A near death experience
A loss of a loved one across the veil
A childbirth
I believe that a medium’s gifts can be unearthed and manifested at any age, in any lifetime, not limited to childhood.
I believe it is possible for someone whose parents, or even grandparents, never manifested psychic or mediumship ability in their lifetime, to awaken their ancient family heritage in this lifetime, and to develop their abilities.
Mediums who awaken their abilities later in life are blessing their future generations - for they are opening Pandora’s box - a box that was perhaps closed for hundreds of years - for all generations in their family from this time forward.
I believe people can inherit their gifts from generations past, and be born with mediumship abilities. And as such, I believe that there are mediums who manifest their abilities from very early on.
And I also believe it is possible for a Soul in a body in this lifetime to undergo an awakening process. In this awakening process, people can “become” mediums with otherwise no known conscious history of family mediumship ability.
Why do I believe people can become mediums?
I have seen it happen.
Familial mental woes and other stigmas can also be empathic mediumship abilities and ancestral gifts that no one is aware of or was tapping into.
In some cases, the abilities were suppressed during the Witch Hunt era - and have been underground since then and only just coming out now as cultures allow for it.
In other cases, the abilities were suppressed in the family, due to the industrial revolution or coming to a new country.
In other cases, familial abilities were swept under the rug, hidden due to shame or fear, and kept quiet for 50-300 years.
I believe that the ability to connect with Spirit is ancestral. And just because ancestral abilities aren’t yet recognized consciously in your family, doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
Still, I believe there are inherent qualities that make a successful medium. Even when someone is born with gifts or awakens them later in life.
These are the qualities that make a successful, natural medium:
Active awareness and perception
Being a good listener
Natural curiosity and interest in the edges of the known
Compassion and love for others
A desire to seek what’s possible
Courageousness and self-confidence
A belief, or want of belief in The Spirit World
The commitment to practice
Natural talent
I believe that everyone has a gift they are meant to manifest on this Earth.
If mediumship is your gift, you are given the tools you need to successfully manifest this gift in this world, in this lifetime.
You are given natural talents which are within you.
You can call these God’s gifts, or Spiritual Gifts, you can call these the perfect recipe for success, you can call it a knack for it, or you can call it lifetimes of experience.
But for many, these gifts need to be unearthed and opened.
Don’t let anyone tell you that just because your childhood wasn’t filled with memories of seeing Spirits that you don’t have the ability.
Mediumship abilities can awaken as you evolve, spiritually grow, or simply start opening the door.
Many mediums I train have evidence of natural abilities that have manifested in ways they haven’t noticed throughout their lives. Just because you aren’t noticing the signs or didn’t know what they were - doesn’t mean they weren’t or aren’t there.
