Charging for spiritual work? If this is a natural gift, why do spiritual service providers charge money?

Whether you just started practicing readings, energy work, or shamanic services, or you've been doing them for years, occasionally, you'll get asked the questions regarding the value of your work.

Often, spiritual providers start out sharing their abilities with others completely free of charge, until eventually, they are doing it with so much of their time, they have to give up a job to take on the demand, or people start offering money.

Most generally do make their gifts available to all. But to stay afloat in this world, many ultimately must find a way to create dollars from their talents.

As much as I've wished, in this day and age, a spiritual service provider can't usually offer their water company all the lotions they were gifted or the candle batch samples they received as payment for utilities.

Though these make great gifts to share with your neighbors.

There are some cultures in which independent spiritual service providers survive on donations, in the absence of gifts, you can set up systems of return for your work, and your job is valuable.

Spiritual service providers and psychics are also often the medicine keeper and the story keepers of their societies, so along with providing a vital resource to those in their extended and intimate circles, they also act as historians and lore keepers, making them precious assets to any community.

When a person pays for a session or buys a product from their spiritual service provider, they are investing in this resource of a person continuing to be around and continuing to be able to offer services.

Many people do want to pay and return the energy, so below, I want to go over three reasons why charging for spiritual work is a good thing to do.

Please take what you read below and pull it into your field of attraction. Capturing the reasons why your spiritual work can be paid can help you get more fair payment from it.  Here they are:

3 Reasons Why Your Intuitive Work Is Valuable

1. You have invested physically and non-physically

While gifts are most undoubtedly natural, you developed them to the point where they can be helpful to others. You may have been growing them all your life.

You may have completed an apprenticeship, gone to a professional school, taken classes and workshops, purchased books, and actively conducting experiments that will go on to benefit the world and their communities.

At the very least, developing gifts cost money because it takes time.

All intuitives school themselves on the techniques required to do their work in the most helpful, loving, and compassionate way.

Additionally, to offer services at all, you have to host a website, pay credit card processing fees, have insurance, pay for workman's comp, have an office space, and buy tools and supplies to keep services up and running and available to the public.

The way things are currently set up, all this costs money to continue it.

2. Intuitive work is the definition of work

Having money allows you to expand and serve more people, and move more energy.

The definition of work is changing in states. If anything, spiritual service providers facilitate change.

You get to witness people's transformations.

However, to help others, you have to tend to the tedious stuff too.

Respond to emails, format websites, develop newsletters, learn accounting and business finance software, troubleshoot technical errors, edit and code articles and design courses, and in other words - do the work of it.

When you are working with your clients one-on-one, you devote dedicated, focused attention to another person, and this requires an incredible amount of mental focus, which can be exhausting on the eyes as well as the brain.

This is also working. You handle vendor returns, politics, and sitting in meetings, all of which is what the masculine side of society classifies as work.

Money is a form of exchange for this transformation of energy, at least in our society, and to keep it going, it must come to you, allowing you to expand and help more people.

3. It's A Service

I've heard many times from others that one psychic reading is worth a year's worth of therapy.

If you charged that much, how much would your readings or spiritual consultations cost?

What if you used that metric to price your sessions?

People who judge about charging are usually those who are avoiding maximizing the potential of their own gifts.

Perhaps they hide behind another income earner, or they are perpetuating a myth from the Victorian Days that gifts should not be charged for.

At that time, men worked, and it was considered sinful for women to make money on their own. Thankfully, these women eventually rose up and created voting rights.

People charge for all types of gifts. You provide a specialty service that benefits those who need your fine-tuned abilities.

Investing in the well spring of yourself and providing a place where others can invest in their wellspring of the soul is a value to society, not just for our current community, but for all future cities to come.

So to recap, intuition is valuable because

  • It’s an investment of skill

  • It’s work and time

  • It’s a service

In today’s society to dedicate time all day changing lives, there has to be a shared currency that keeps the lights on for people, and money, is usually that exchange metric in this world we know today.

The more you have, the more you can help.

Everyone deserves to feel whole, to connect with his or her loved ones, guides, and angels - regardless of ability to pay in a physical sense, which is why freelance spiritual service providers and psychics do some amount of pro-bono work every year.

I discuss how to work a fair amount of pro-bono work into your practice in this post.

You can also use sliding scales for sessions where you feel the cost would be too much or if the person is close to you, and they've given you a lot.

If you are pricing out your rates now, know Spirit will guide you on setting up a fair price for your community if you ask.

The first money amount I received for my readings was $40, and it was pushed on me by one of my early volunteer clients.

The day I received that first amount is incredibly special to me now. It now stands as my business’s opening day, and it’s celebrated annually as a holiday.

Once I said yes, people started to offer me more and more. If people have begun to provide you with payments, this is usually a good sign, your business is growing and maybe soon ready to stand on its own.
