When looking for evidence of Spirit, the presence of an orb is one of the first things ghost hunters, skeptics, believers and non-believers look to verify the bona fide presence of a Spirit.

Over time, I’ve heard a lot of people talk about orbs, and in that time, there seems to be a lot of confusion. Collectively - we’re all confused. And well, it’s because orbs are confusing.

Here’s a few common things you’ll hear when people talk about an orb:

Well, are there orbs in that photo?

Look! An orb just flew past the screen!

With that type of trajectory, it has to be an orb.

Wait, could it just be an insect? Maybe it’s dust. . . .

Then, you hear, this:

We need more evidence. We need to see the original photo. We need to know more about this scenario involving orbs before we can know for sure.

Does this sound familiar to you? It’s definitely a common topic in my house, whether I like it or not, and if you’ve ever found yourself asking, what on earth is an orb, anyway? Then you’ve come to the right place.

An orb is a concentration of energy (electrical energy, electrons, particles of matter, which are also energy) that is dense enough to produce a reflection. That is, when light is flashed, directed, shined upon an ‘orb,’ there could be a reflection of light.

This reflection, is usually what you see when you see an orb.

Again, orb = concentration of energy. That’s all.

Maybe it’s in solid or gaseous form, but either way, it’s dense enough to produce a reflection.

What’s a reflection? Well, in physics terminology, it’s this:

Reflection is the change in direction of a wavefront at an interface between two different media so that the wavefront returns into the medium from which it originated. That’s all it is.

Did you capture an orb in a photo or a video? To capture that video or photo, you are sending energy, sometimes in the form of a flash, to another object to capture the image.

What is captured is all dependent on the environment and media conditions (available and types of light, length of exposure time, etc), however, the object in question is usually dense enough in form there is some sort of reflection of energy.

If you see an orb with your physical eyes, sunlight and moonlight can also help guide the creation of reflection for you to see a visible image.

Therefore, capturing an “orb” with your eyes or on film is possible, if the energy is dense enough and the environmental and camera conditions are right to see it.

By the definition above, any roundish energy mass can create an orb like image, right?

Right. So, this is why dust, insects and physical world particulars are regularly suspected for what you really want to know about and the reason you are reading this article - and that is,

Spiritual Orbs of Light

Spiritual Orbs are concentrations of energy that created by the presence of a high energy Spirit.

The distinction here is made between high energy Spirits and low energy Spirits because high energy spirits are more capable than low energy Spirits to concentrate their energy into such a small space to be visible by Light reflection.

Thus, while there are always exceptions to the rules, most of the Spiritual Orbs that you will see are evidence of high energy (vibration) Spirits.

High vibration Spirits fall into the category of positive, loving, neutral and Divine spirits that exist in the realm of Spiritual Oneness, the Source, the Light. This can include, but is not limited to Angels, Spirit Guides, Deceased Loved Ones, Fairies, Gnomes and Friendly Earth Spirits and Crystals.

Low vibration Spirits do not typically appear as an orb, a reflection of light, because by definition, low vibration Spirits are lacking energy, lacking light. Thus, more often than not, darker, lower spirits can and do appear as an absence of light - a void of it.

Take a photo and see a shadow not a flash of light? A wisp of dark smoke or a dark figure? This is more characteristic of a dark low energy Spirit and their typical appearance to us - in person, in cameras and film.

So, if you are seeing orbs, or capture them - the majority rule is that they are usually high vibration, more loving, more friendly and completely harmless, probably helpful, Spirits.

Orbs are often a sign you are supported by The Spirit World and they are around you.

With that said, Spiritual Orbs are a visitation method and not all Spirits choose to visit and create a visible reflection of light - a Spiritual Orb. While appearing as Light is a preference of our friends in the Angelic realm, some, like Spirit Guides, prefer signs, or Loved Ones ,who may prefer to speak to you directly and connecting in dreams.

Signs your orb may be a Spirit visitation

If so, make sure to check the Spiritual Orb in question with these other factors:

• Was it a special occasion? Spirit does like to visit for special events like birthdays, gatherings of family and anniversaries.

• Did you or the person who noticed the orb sense, feel or see anything out of the ordinary? In other words, was the presence of a Spirit felt? 

• Was there something particularly important going on in the life of the person who took the photo or who was in the photo? Since orbs are usually Guides, Angels and Loved Ones - perhaps their presence was actually a message to look more closely at something.

• Was there a temperature change? An energy shift? A wind gust? Any other energy shifting cues going on during the orb experience? If it was a photo, you may have to take a moment to think back to that time.

• Did you collect any other measurements? Audio, video, etc. This can also support the presence of Spirit. Not always reliable, though, because the Spirit in question can choose to or choose not to appear and utilize these methods. Just as they can choose or not choose, to appear as an orb!

With this extra information, you may be able to help ‘verify’ the presence of a Spiritual Orb vs. something else, and by sharing your expertise, you can help reduce a lot of the collective confusion revolving orbs.

By and large, Spiritual Orbs are bigger by comparison, more translucent and more diffuse in their edges than dust or insects.

Insect, dust particles and other physical matter tends to be denser in white level color, harder in edges, and smaller in size when compared to a Spiritual Orb.

Trajectory, speed or direction is no indication of Spirit. Some Spirits do have a tendency to hover and watch over, like Angels, while others, namely Fairies, choose to flit around. But also, let’s not forget that dust can hover and insects can also flit by.

As with all things, it’s important to gather more than one type of evidence or level of measurement to know for sure.
