The Spiritual Meaning of the February Snow Moon

February’s Full Moon, called the Snow Moon, will be on Saturday, February 24th at 7:30am ET.

It will be a micromoon, which is the opposite of a supermoon, meaning the moon will be at its farthest point from earth.

The reason why the February full moon is called the Snow Moon dates back to 1760. Captain Jonathan Carver, an early Northern American explorer, wrote that this month is the snowiest month of the winter.

There are also other names for this moon and many are connected to animals - The Eagle Moon, The Beaver Moon, and The Groundhog Moon, to name a few.

It has also been called The Bony Moon and the Hunger Moon, indicating that like the January Wolf Moon, this time of year is known for hunger.

This full moon is in Virgo which can inspire you to become more tolerant of life’s imperfections and get organized.

In addition, below are 5 spiritual meanings of the February Snow Moon:

1 - Wipe the slate clean to jump start the Lunar New Year

This year’s Snow Moon is the first full moon of the Lunar New Year, initiating the Year of the Dragon.

Use it as a spiritual spotlight to pave the way for new beginnings - it’s the perfect time for decluttering, saying goodbye to anything holding you back and just be still.

During that stillness, ask your inner self, “What can I let go of during this next cycle?” or “What’s ready to be released from my life now?” Notice what your intuitive self says in response.

2 - Plant New Seeds

During this month, Pagans celebrate Imbolc, which is the half-way point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. It marks the beginning of the end of winter.

The Snow Moon also marks the literal start of planting season, especially if you’re starting seeds indoors.

It’s the perfect time to draw up your plans for this year, and take intentional actions for those goals to manifest.

3 - Face The Facts of Reality

During this full moon, take off any rose-colored glasses and look at any situation you’re facing with a detailed, realistic eye.

This full moon is in Virgo, which is all about taking practical steps to address the situation at hand. Make small, achievable goals and using dedication and focus, accomplish them.

Virgo is known for perfectionism and overthinking so make sure to use these energies to your advantage; double check that email before hitting send.

Mentally follow through your plans in advance to identify potential roadblocks to address ahead of time.

4 - Inner Awakening

The Snow Moon can be a reminder that while the cold of winter still blankets the Earth, things can come to life and begin to stir below the surface.

Winter’s outer stillness can provide the perfect container for introspection to explore what desires, needs and dreams are beginning to awaken in you.

5 - Update Your Wellness Routine

Virgos are all about organization, making lists and routines, including wellness routines. During this full moon, you may identify little shifts you can make in your daily wellness routine that can help make your schedule easier to work with or decrease life’s stressors.

This full moon is the perfect time to let go of excess worry, analysis paralysis and being overly critical of yourself or others.

All in all, the Snow Moon is an opportunity to meet the Lunar New Year with an organized mindset, new and improved daily routines and ready to plant seeds for a spring and summer ahead.
