One of the most important elements of life is the ability to experience joy, which can sometimes feel like freedom, happiness, or even just a sense of peace or contentment.

As time moves on and things come up, our memories of events in the past and awareness of things that could happen in the future, given those events, dampens our ability to feel happiness. 

In the current moment, you may be experiencing changing circumstances, meaning there’s now a new gateway for you to look for an opportunity to bring in the energy of joy, and happiness where you are now.

Happiness and joy are emotions that are possible for all of us to experience, and it’s usually evident we’re experiencing these emotions when we smile.

Smiling is a habit that can be practiced, by first finding things outside of yourself that make you happy, and responding to them, and then ultimately, you can bring about a smile at will.

The point of smiling more is simply to create a doorway for a happier, more abundant life, starting at the emotional and thought level. From there, it’s then possible to experience a happier life at the physical level.

Below are thirty-seven of my favorite tips for smiling more - 

1 - Inhale bergamot or other good smelling citrus fragrances you have on hand

2 - Say hello to an animal

3 - Step outside for 10 deep breaths

4 - Taste your favorite cup of tea or coffee

5 - Enjoy a snack

6 - Think about the last time you saw a creature you love express joy

7 - Plan a surprise for someone

8 - Gaze at one of your vision goal boards

9 - Create an inspirational background for your cell phone or laptop

10 - Think about one thing you are grateful to have in this moment

11 - Take a pause and do one loving thing for yourself

12 - Spend a gift card or cash in a points balance

13 - Listen to upbeat music

14 - Read a couple of love poems

15 - Let someone “off the hook”

16 - Talk about something fun with another person

17 - Stretch for ten seconds

18 - Consider a time when you or someone you loved “beat the odds” and succeeded

19 - Ponder the wonder of water, how amazing that it is one of the only molecules that’s lighter in a dense form, making it possible for life to go on in winter

20 - Do one kind thing for the wildlife in your neighborhood

21 - Ask someone about their newest hobby and listen as though they were the only person in the world

22 - Take one step forward on your newest hobby 

23 - Add glitter to something

24 - Finish a project you started

25 - Recognize a good quality in someone

26 - Water and fertilize a plant

27 - Imagine everything around you filled with love energy in the shape of hearts and all those hearts flowing into your heart

28 - Smile at a baby or toddler, in person or digitally

29 - Make your bed

30 - Spritz yourself in a favorite perfume or scent

31 - Add an uplifting essential oil blend to your diffuser

32 - Go through your photos, select the happiest ones and print them to put on your fridge

33 - Give a cat their favorite toy or treat

34 - Commit to noticing all the happy dogs you see, and the people who care about their happiness, for one day

35 - Think of one person who sat down to teach you something you previously believed was unlearnable, and visualize them surrounded in glowing light

36 - Ponder one lingering task, start completing it now by mapping out where to begin

37 - Take three breaths, repeat the mantra, “I am that which I seek”

These are just a few ways to begin the process of smiling more often. As you practice smiling more, know there will be some days when it feels more challenging to smile, there may also be periods of life like that.

The goal is to be as happy as you can be no matter what. As you stay committed to smiling more, and happiness as a goal mindset, it does get easier over time to get into a positive mood starting with just a simple expression, a smile.
