Plus +CBD Oil by CV Sciences - Gummies, Softgels, Tincture and Balm
One was oil-soluble, the other was water-soluble.
I've received a lot of feedback on these articles and have since spent the past year testing out the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is a phytochemical of hemp, and so far I've worked with it on dogs and also humans - meaning myself, friends, and family members.
The benefits of CBD are plentiful and can be found in the literature, so I opened up the website for discussing this compound. It's an herbal remedy that shows promise for folks who are sensitive to emotional conditions and inflammation, which contributes to pain.
I want the world to be free of suffering, as do most people, and herbal remedies definitely do help with this, especially at times when we need them most.
So today we're talking about the brand Plus +CBD Oil.
You may have seen it shelves in your local natural health food store, grocery store or herbal medicine shop. It's currently one of the most frequently placed wholesale brands of CBD on the market today. In fact, it was the first brand I saw on the shelves of our grocery stores here, and it's intrigued me ever since.
Plus +CBD Oil is by CV Sciences out of Las Vegas Nevada, and they have a large selection of products in different flavors and formulations.
Overall, though, they carry three main lines:
The Raw Line - their lowest-dosage line, it comes in brown-red packaging.
The Total Plant Complex Line - their mid-dosage line, it comes in green packaging.
The Gold Formula Line - which is their highest-potency line, it comes in yellow packaging, and we're talking about this line today.
The Gold Formula Line includes products in liquid form, soft gels, gummies, balms, and a concentrate. I'll be covering the liquid, gels, gummies, and balm in their Gold Line in this post. I've tried the concentrate, too, but I've run out of it so don't have it available to compare.
Also their products are non-GMO, gluten-free, and CO2 extracted, which is all helpful.
So let's begin -
So first we have the tincture, which is not really a tincture, it’s CBD in liquid form that you take out of a dropper.
They call it their Hemp Drops.
This is a 60mL bottle that retails for around $145.95, which is about the going rate.
The bottle lists it at 9mg a serving, which is about 1/2 a dropper and at that rate you have 160 servings per bottle. The bottle itself has 1500mg of CBD, making it’s the highest amount of CBD of the products in the Gold Formula line at only $0.097/mg of CBD.
Unlike some other CBD dropper bottles on the market, Plus +CBD Oil’s blend isn’t pure hemp extract. It also includes olive oil and monk fruit, likely giving it that yellow color and the slightly sweet taste that it has. If you’re sensitive to herbal tastes, or you are giving it to someone in your care who is, this is a good blend for that. I tested the Unflavored version and found it to be very pleasant and sweet.
While there is no firm setting for the dosage of CBD, some recommendations say to start at 1-3mg and work your way up. I’ve found that anywhere between 20-30mg is nice for most people, depending on weight, some require more, some less. I’ve also seen research studies that dose at 1500mg a day with no ill effects, though for the budget-friendly, this is a rather extreme place to begin. Thankfully all of Plus +CBD Oil products start their dosages out on the lower end, giving you time to find the right dosage for you, without going overboard on your budget.
Next, we have the Hemp Softgels.
I liked these and found they were quite relaxing.
Each gel is 15mg per each, giving the 30 Softgels a total dosage for the bottle of 450mg of CBD. I would recommend these if you have to travel and would like to bring some CBD with you but don't want to have to worry about spillage or breakage from a dropper bottle, as it's in a plastic container and in Softgel format.
I also think these would be nice to have if you work somewhere and you want to take some CBD during the day, but don't want to have to explain to your coworkers about the dropper bottle. It's more discreet, and if you already have a vitamin regimen, these could fit right in to a pill scheduler.
The gels run $49.95 for a bottle of 30, making each gel $1.67 and $0.11/mg of CBD.
A little cheaper than the gels per each, we have the Hemp Gummies.
Pictured are the Cherry Mango flavor, which if you were hoping they wouldn’t taste like hemp, they still do, just with a slightly fruity taste as well.
They reminded me of the old school candy, Swedish Fish. These would be something I’d recommend to someone who enjoys taking their vitamins in gummy format - which I do.
Overall, I thought they were fun to eat and had an herbal overtone.
They contain 5mg of CBD in each gummy, giving 150mg of CBD per bottle. This gives them a smaller dosage than the Softgels, making them slightly more cost effective than the gels at $1.34 a gummy in the smaller size bottle, but it also gives them the second highest per mg investment of $0.26/mg of CBD.
There’s no artificial flavoring in these, which may lead to their herbal taste, and you can buy them in 30 or 60 gummy sizes, for either $39.95 or $64.95.
Finally, we have the balm! This is the Extra Strength Hemp Balm. CV Sciences does also sell a balm in their Raw Formula line which is 50mg of hemp CBD per jar.
This jar is from their Gold Formula Line, and it includes 100mg of CBD.
I found it to have the same consistency as one of those herbal, muscle healing rubs. Not quite a lotion, not quite a wax, more like a greasy balm that would be great to rub into your cuticles or on the heels of your feet, elbows or knees, which I did.
A little goes a long way with this, and because it’s a balm, you really don’t know how much CBD you get per serving with this, so I’d say this is more of the add-on item, though possibly my favorite of the entire line. It includes green tea extract, willow bark extract, and peppermint oil, giving it a pleasant minty smell. I kept smelling my hands after using it, and as a bonus - it contains no-pore clogging ingredients.
It runs $51.95 for the jar, and with 100mg CBD we are looking at $0.51/mg of CBD.
So at the top, we started with the Hemp Drops, which has the highest amount of hemp CBD at the lowest cost per milligram. Then moved down to the Hemp Balm, which has the lowest amount of hemp CBD at the highest cost per milligram. Though the Hemp Drops are the highest dollar value of CV Sciences offerings in their Gold Formula Line, you actually get the most bang for your buck with this item, making the Softgels the next best value after that.
If cost-effectiveness matters most to you when selecting a CBD product from CV Sciences, I found that in this line, Softgels and the Drops were the best investment per milligram (you get the most CBD for your money), but that the gummies and the balm were the most enjoyable to use, though they had the least amount of actual CBD per dollar value.
Overall, the entire Gold Formula Line from Plus +CBD Oil is tasty, includes a lot of options for your dosage style and is excellent for those looking at starting their CBD regime at lower dosages, including pets. It all just depends on what style you want to take it in and what investment you’re interested in making. I’ve tried a few of their products and found that depending on the circumstance, there is a different product for each, making it a very well rounded line.
