8 Obstacles To Overcome When Finding Your Life Purpose
guest post by sheila seaborg
Being intuitive comes with all sorts of vulnerability.
Sometimes, we feel completely exposed socially, financially and personally.
This, coupled with the fact we are a sensitive lot, makes it difficult to want to let our defenses down and to let spirit in.
Personally, even though I’ve accepted my fate, I still wrestle with the knowledge that this is what I’m really here for.
The more I combat this thought, the more I find myself not living my true life purpose.
How do I know when I'm not living the way I should be?
And lots of it!
there are many ways intuitive People can procrastinate on Fulfilling their life purpose
Let’s take a look at some of them…
Drinking too much alcohol or caffeine. My vice of choice is red wine and doppio espressos from Starbucks. Interestingly enough, one of the best ways to ignore spirit is by consuming too much of these. We all have our coping mechanisms and many intuitives use this one because it works so well.
Spending too much money. This is a big subject for me personally. As intuitives, we have a lot of issues going on inside this topic. We need to look at money as our lives are – non-traditional! However, putting this aside, when I find myself wishing I had just one more spiritual book, e-course or fill in the blank, I know I am stalling!
Working hard with minimal results. I hear many intuitives say, “If I just stay busy enough, no one will know I am not living my life purpose.” The intuitive world has a billion type A’s that do too much, and look so busy, they don’t have any time to do anything else. When I am doing this, I know I need to take a breath and ask myself how effective my busyness really is.
Many projects but none are finished. Intuitives are notoriously labeled and branded with things like ADHD and nonverbal learning disorder (see this documentary on it here). When I find myself starting things but not finishing them, I know I’m delaying the inevitable and that won’t get me any closer to living my life purpose.
Too much social media or TV. How much time can you spend on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook? I would guess about a thousand years! It’s all too easy to say, “ok, I’m just going to check one thing really quickly,” and find yourself deep into Youtube videos 2 hours later. Then, there’s Netflix, Hulu and Gaiam movies. What’s an intuitive to do? You know…
Focusing on education instead of practice. Personally, I think if there was one time-waster that trapped more intuitives, it would be this one. It’s kind of a catch-22: you have to learn more to be better with your gifts, but you don’t want to spend all your time learning. For me, I think of my learning as remembering. You already know most of the stuff you are teaching yourself. You are just picking up these books and classes to remember how to apply it to this earth life. I believe if you’re intuitive, you were intuitive in many lives before this one. Many of you were in mystery schools, seers, oracles, teachers, etc. In past lives, so much of the things you are going to learn about your psychic gifts are just a matter of recalling. So what’s the key? Don’t’ spend too much time learning. It is much more important, even if you are insecure about where you are with your gifts, to get out and practice them. You will learn far more this way than you ever will from a book.
Too many self-improvement projects. On Monday, I meant to go Vegan, drink green smoothies, lose 20lbs, look up that recipe I was going to make on detoxinista.com (love her!) and then spend an hour on the NLP program I just bought (remember that shopping bit?). While this is all great, I neglected to make time to spend on my life purpose. Do you ever find yourself doing this? Be honest.
Lack of clarity with your life purpose. This is the granddaddy of all procrastinations. It’s where my heart gets heavy and I have more empathy for intuitives than I care to admit. After all, I struggled with this question for forty years and I believe I made every mistake possible. This did a lot of damage – the not knowing, that is. If you can relate to this, take a deep breath. All is not lost and you WILL be ok!
Do you notice yourself doing any of these?
If so, you're not alone.
Sometimes, when it’s your own life, it can be difficult to see the forest through the trees.
This is where I feel working with other intuitives can help.
If you’re a medium, psychic, healer, coach, etc., you have great gifts and can offer people a lot of insight and healing.
Sometimes, however, it’s hard to objectively use that insight for ourselves.
My best advice for you is to seek help.
See one of your friends with the nontraditional occupation. They can help. [Here is a list of incredible intuitives to get you started.] If you’re not ready to make that kind of step, though, I understand.
Start meditating and meeting with your guides to ask them for help.
Also, if you’re still unsure about your life purpose, start by asking yourself these questions:
What do you think you would be good at?
If you had to guess your life purpose, what would it be?
I feel we, as intuitives, all have work to do.
I understand ignoring your gifts and procrastinating is so easy to do, but it’s time.
We need you.
This world needs your gifts and your unique input that only you hold the key to.
