When I was a little girl, I would frequently sneak out of the house to go to the cemetery with the boys from my neighborhood.
I went because I sought to understand I was already experiencing with the Spirit world. If Spirits would be anywhere, I rationalized, why would they not be here?
Yet oddly, no matter how many times I went out in the dark at night, surrounding myself with graves, I never once did encounter a Spirit in a cemetery.
In fact, I've had so many more of my spiritual encounters in locations absent of actual dead bodies.
Cemeteries are empty places. Almost no one living visits there and for the deceased, the only reason to come back and visit on Earth is to connect with their friends and family, not to hang out at their grave site and be reminded that they are deceased.
Deceased people are people. They enjoy the company of other people.
If you are visiting a grave of a loved one you knew personally, it is possible when you visit, your loved one comes to visit with you - but it's not likely they are simply hanging out there. There's little reason to do so.
If you come back as a deceased Spirit to visit, there is not a reason to hang out at a cemetery, unless:
You are a soldier or veteran Spirit, honorably protecting memorials and graves
Your family members religiously come to visit your grave and during this time is an opportunity for you to visit with them, too
You are an Earthbound Spirit and for some reason, are connected to your grave site
Aside from these three exceptions, there are very few Spirits present at a graveyard.
Want to find a ghost?
Go to where the people are - a family reunion, a holiday gathering or an everyday household and you will be more likely to find a person in Spirit than somewhere without living people.
Your loved ones don’t enjoy hanging out in creepy places as much as you don’t, so, they generally do not stay connected to their graves and only visit when you also visit (if at all).
Their goal is to connect with you, not with their gravestone.

Find out where their favorite place was to visit while alive, and they will much prefer to meet you and be remembered there, instead.
