Have you ever experienced that stomach drop feeling? Had a sinking feeling in your stomach? What does it mean when you have a gut feeling?

A few years ago, I went on a road trip to the desert. Driving across the country, I was somewhere in New Mexico, looking for a place to stay for the night.

I rolled into the only town I'd seen for 40 or 50 miles and pulled into the parking lot of the closest and first motel that I saw.

While there, I started looking around the desert parking lot, only to find signs alerting people of theft and to see a few people just milling out in the parking lot.

I was in the desert. People were milling about in the mostly vacant desert parking lot.

At that moment, my stomach began to drop.

I got out of the car, walked to the front door, and swung open the glass door, where my sister was already inside to tell her we had to leave. She, at the same time, was running out.

She shouted at me, "We gotta get out of here!" and I replied back, "I know, I came to get you."

We ran to our car, hopped in and drove off - both of us - still unsure of what the other experienced.

After we reached our secured destination, we made some calls.

Turns out, the actual manager of the motel had been out of town on vacation, and in his absence, his employees and a few of their friends took over the guest services - including the theft of all the guest's credit card information upon check-in.

Which, of course, wholly aligned with our shared gut feeling that something was happening.

Gut Feeling Definition

Gut Feelings - What Does A Gut Feeling Mean - Photo of person wearing jeans and crop top with stomach visible, and their hand resting on it, by jasmin chew from Pexels -

A gut feeling is a sensation felt in the stomach that can heighten logical and emotional awareness.

It can be interpreted as a low drop, hum, or rumble in your stomach that you receive when something is changing in your environment.

It's different from the feeling of fear, which attempts to sway you on what to do - fight or flight. The gut feeling, instead, provides a sense of alertness. When you receive it, it is as though your whole body is being told to "look, be aware."

Gut feelings are often interpreted as indicators of a dangerous, ill-intended, or of a not-of-the-divine-highest-and-greatest-good situation that you need to know about.

However, there’s more to it than that.

The Purpose of Gut Feelings

Gut feelings are designed to help you contribute to the world, the creative process, and the evolution of souls.

In some cases, gut feelings can save lives, because they can precede a low energy event wave. They are meant to help you stimulate and foster positive change, and identify what’s right for you.

What is a positive change? Change for the highest good? What difference is this feeling asking you to make?

The idea of what is greatest and what is good is forever evolving.

The highest good is not and never will be a finite answer. So sometimes, you will find yourself in the moment of that state of evolution of when that good is changing.

Your body, being the intelligent instrument that it is, then may tap you into the awareness of this change moment, which is what can cause the gut to feel and perk up.

The gut feeling is often a sign to act, a cue that the time is now to participate in a change.

How To Confirm A Gut Feeling Is Accurate

Whenever I get a gut feeling, I know that this is a moment of astute impact, when I have the highest ability to make a positive difference with whatever the work it is I am doing and on the people around me.

It's usually accompanied by a buzz or an electric feel in the atmosphere around a situation. Some would describe this as a charge.

If I still have the feeling after I eat, time to tune into the mind and the heart to see what's up.

How The Gut Feeling Can Help The Mind

If you are paying attention to when your body is telling you to be aware, the gut feeling can be an excellent tool that can work together with your logical mind in the decision-making process.

People think they must work separately, the brain, the belly, and the heart.

But when paired together, the interaction between them results in a beautiful symphony of emotion, logical thought, and harmony with the collective unconscious.

Whenever I have created the pieces, mostly written works, that I have been most proud of, it is when I have synched the gut, the brain, the heart. Since the brain and the emotions are both capable of error, when we pair them, we may be able to boost collective cellular certainty.

How Gut Feelings Are Meant To Work

A gut feeling is a sensation provided to you by the undefined Spirit to alert you of a potential change in the environment that your cells may need to or want to know about.

Gut feelings, stomach drops, rumbles, and sinking feelings are all designed to tell you one thing:

There is a shift in energy here, be aware.

Whenever and wherever there is a shift in energy, know that you can participate in that shift.

As an animal, a biological being part of the environment we are in, we all have the responsibility to contribute to the highest outcome of any scenario.

What Can Make The Gut Feeling Even More Precise

The Gut Feeling is managed by the Solar Plexus Chakra, which is considered the third eye for primarily clairsentient people. It is most reliable when you are confident about your gifts and talents, and when others around you have the highest levels of confidence in your ability.

We are most confident with our gifts when we are sure our heart, mind, and body is in sync.

We are also most confident when the Universe around us supports our gifts.

The Universe, being the individual people we know usually.

And while they may not always say it, you can feel it when the people around you have trust and faith in you.

Humility, humbleness, and the willingness to observe, listen, and watch the world around us is what provides that gut confidence. In other words, when you are aligned with truth and virtue, this is when the feeling is in its highest form of manifestation.

When we see the connectedness in all people around us and can identify the shared needs of those in our environment, this evokes trust. Then we usually, at some point, find ourselves in a position, poised to act upon that trust, which is when the gut kicks in.

So to recap

  • A gut feeling is a sensation that lets us know upcoming change is in the air

  • It may alert us when the time is now to participate in the creative process

  • It allows our cellular body to take part in the evolution of our circumstances

  • It is strengthened through confidence, the support of our peers and post-validation

  • We can work with it to contribute to the highest manifestation of the greatest good for ourselves and others

If you have been observing the world around you for a while, at some point, you will be in the place where you are poised to act.

In my personal opinion, when we get that gut feeling, it's when the impact of our input is at its precipice, and our body knows and is telling us when and where we can make the highest contribution - giving us the butterflies which stimulate, the rumbling or the sensations of change, the impetus to act

The gut feeling usually tells us when and how that is.

You can hopefully now see why it can easily be interpreted into something to fear, since it can often indicate change is near.
