Guest Post by Sarah Petruno, Shamana
Last year, I was working late at night at my kitchen table, which sits adjacent to the bathroom.
As I typed away on the keys to my laptop,
a bathroom cabinet opened,
and a full, large, glass bottle of tea tree essential oil fell from a high shelf, shattering on the tile below.
It was someone I knew.
At the time, I worked at the local University, in the Psychology Building, as a graduate student and teaching assistant. As a graduate student, I spent many, many late hours in that building. And I spent many hours in the dark hallways, making photocopies for my students. . .and meanwhile seeing Spirits at the ends of corridors, in the shadows, and in the stairwells.
I mostly ignored them - I just wanted to get my work done and get out, and I didn’t want to talk to any disembodied Spirits lingering the halls of a Psychology Building.
The girl who pushed that bottle from the shelf, was a Spirit I’d seen and knew about in passing. She committed suicide 25 years earlier, in front of a Professor’s office. We all knew about her. In fact, many people felt her presence and talked to me about it.
That night, she’d followed me home.
She’d seen me see her, and she needed my help.
I’d previously ignored her, and desperate for help, she decided to take it to another level - by smashing a glass bottle from a high shelf (surprise, Spirits can move things).
Why does a professional have Spirit problems?
If you are wondering, why does a Shaman, of all people, have Spirits following them home? Shouldn’t she have well defined boundaries? Why are Earthbounds coming into your space in the first place?
I do have boundaries, but I also have a job.
My job is to act as a lightworker.
What is a Lightworker?
As a lightworker, especially a healer, my job is to heal the Spiritual and Energetic Body. My job is to heal a Spirit. And some Spirits don’t have bodies at this time - but they still need help and healing. And it’s my job to help.
I, and many intuitive workers I know, bring healing, light, and help to those in need. And sometimes ‘those in need’ have physical bodies, and sometimes they don’t. So while I do have boundaries and only work with Light Spirits - I work for the Light, to bring Spirits closer to the Light - body or no body.
This Earthbound Spirit needed my help.
As a lightworker on Earth, you can be seen by all Spirits,
crossed over and not crossed over, as a person who works to help others. We’re like school crossing guards, wearing bright orange vests that scream, “I’M A HELPFUL PERSON. DO YOU NEED HELP? I’LL HELP!”
By default, our job working with the Light, says that we help.
It says we illuminate the way through the darkness, for others.
So when an Earthbound Spirit approaches, most times, it’s because they see you as a friendly person available for talking to, or, they see you as a helpful person that can talk them through their fears of crossing the street and get them across to the Other Side safely.
Back to the story.
So tied up in work, I didn’t notice her, and she needed me to notice. And sometimes, when you’re desperate for help, you can take extreme measures. In her opinion at the time, the only way to get me to notice, was by using her energy to transform the space and push a bottle off a shelf.
Once she had my attention, I talked with her through her fears and concerns. Helped her understand what was happening to her now, what things might be like on the Other Side in the Light, and we explored the ways that she could be happier in the Light.
After much hemming and hawing and an appearance from her childhood dog, she agreed and crossed over into the Light.
And 1 week later, as I walked into the Psychology building, I received 3 text messages in a row. From an unknown number, with “message cannot be displayed” as the text.
This is a common way for Spirits to connect with the Living, through electronics. I had a feeling it was from her, so I tuned in and connected - and saw the sender of the texts.
It was her, sending an electronic thank you, for spending the time to talk with her through her fears, and guiding her to a state of peace.
Nearly 1 year later, I still see her sometimes.
But this time, as a Light Spirit, dropping by to check in and say hello.
So, why, the bottle flying off the shelf?
Spirits who are Earthbound, meaning, they have not yet crossed into the Light, have limited means with which to communicate and get the attention of, people still on Earth.
Even if you have developed the ability to communicate with Spirit through one of the 4 Spiritual Senses, it’s a little more difficult for Earthbound Spirits to reach out and communicate with you in this way, as compared to Light Spirits.
As Spirits in a Physical Body on Earth, we are connected with the Divine Light. Right here, right now. Because we are Spiritual beings inhabiting a body, we are inherently connected to Spiritual Source.
This means, that we have an insta-connection to all other beings that are connected to Source Energy.
This includes Light Spirits.
We have a natural pathway for communicating spiritually with Light Spirits, because we are already connected via our mutual golden chains of Light connecting us to Source.
Earthbound Spirits, having shed their physical body, and having chosen to NOT cross into the Light, have chosen for the time being, for whatever reason, to not be connected to the light.
Chain link of Light = broken.
Easy communication pathway, made not so easy.
But you and I, as beings of the Light, can extend a helping hand and open up the link, if we so choose, to an individual not of the Light. We can shine a Light, on those not Light.
The pathway reversed - communicating with you as an Earthbound - isn’t as easy.
Earthbound Spirits, not connected to us by the Light, thus without any easy link, and without voice boxes to speak, aren’t left with many choices to get our attention.
But once they do, and we notice, there’s the potential that we could reach out to them.
And that’s why there are things flying off your shelves and my shelves.
It’s dramatic and attention getting.
If you notice, you might extend a helping hand.
Even from a place of pain, of fear, or of perceived darkness, when someone approaches a school crossing guard, most of the time, it’s for help.
It’s for a kind voice, to compassionately listen to their fears, and walk them through it, getting them safely across the street.
If things are flying off your shelves, consider that the individual doing it, desperately needs to get your attention, for help.
