In this post, we continue on our journey of debunking the Ghost Whisperer’s 100 Ghost Rules. The Ghost Whisperer is a fictional television show, where the main character, Melinda, is a medium who struggles with managing her every day life and dealing with Spirit. It’s also a favorite show of my friends, family and acquaintances.
While the series has since been aired and completed, there’s lots of valid information on the show, yet many of the rules are in need of more explanation and expansion. So here, a real life medium and regular gal (me) will debunk, verify and clarify these ghost idiosyncrasies for you, step by step.
100 GHOST RULES FROM 76-100
Each rule is stated exactly as the show states it, underneath is each I provide you with the thoughts of a every-day medium.
76. Ghosts can possess the living to do 'automatic writing' which helps get their messages across.
By choice. Mediums or spirit communicators can invite the deceased to come forward and use their energy to write the Spirit’s messages. This is called ‘written delivery’, as opposed to the type of mediumship I and most mediums in North America usually practice, called ‘spoken delivery’.
77. Ghosts can communicate through Electronic Voice Phenomena -- known as 'white noise'.
This is an example of Spirit manipulating energetic devices with their own energy. They can also manipulate lights, television, radio and wind to alter sound, noises or any conduit of wave or particle energy to get their message out.
78. Ghosts can remain earthbound until they take revenge on the living.
Sigh. I’ve seen this happen only once, out of the thousands of Spirits I’ve interacted with.
79. Not every earthbound ghost is destined to cross into the Light -- some are sucked to the Dark Side.
Yes. But they aren’t sucked over there against their will. It is a personal choice to walk in the direction of the Dark, rather than the Light, upon crossing. And yes, some choose to make this choice over walking the path of the Light. The world is a crazy place.
80. Ghosts can fear other ghosts.
People can and do fear other people. Ghosts are people.
81. Ghosts can appear as auras, a subtle, pervasive atmosphere seen emanating from an object or place.
A collection of ghosts can sometimes look like a cloud of indiscriminate mist. Without bodies, sometimes, with alot of Spirits present, the energy blends together.
82. Ouija boards can create unexpected and unwanted ghost activity.
Well, not unexpected. When you use a Ouija board, you are literally asking for a Spirit to be present. When you ask, someone usually shows up.
Unwanted? Absolutely. This is where creating and developing boundaries, setting intention, and learning the ins and outs of how to identify the type of Spirit you are communicating with comes in handy. Without putting conditions on your open door invitation of the Ouija board, anyone can come. Ouija board isn’t inherently bad, it’s simply been converted into a mass market board game and is sometimes utilized by those who don’t know how to properly open and close portals, set boundaries, and manage Spirit communicators. Thankfully, everyone can learn how to do this, if they want.
83. A ghost can make the inhabitants of a house it is haunting feel weak and sick.
Yes, by siphoning the energy of the living to use for themselves. Ghosts do not yet live in the Divine Light, thus, they have no energy source of their own. To stay around somewhere, they have to gather their energy from somewhere.
84. The living can hear noisy ghosts.
Haha, yes. Sometimes, Spirits bump into things, talk loudly or walk loudly, like horses on the floorboards. I walk loudly, too. But anyway, since they are so used to being unseen and unheard, some Spirits get careless with how loud they are and when they run into someone who can hear them, they may not even realize they are bothering anyone. Got a ghost you need to pipe down? Here’s an easy solution:
Say this out loud, “Hey! I hear you! Can you please quiet down? There are people trying to focus here!”
Done. But be prepared, they may be very shocked and surprised someone living could hear.
85. A ghost can attach itself to a living person whom it believes it will have a future connection through reincarnation.
This rule is a small caveat, and only pertaining to specific situations with specific people. Not a broad scale rule.
86. Ghosts can follow their passion even in death.
Of course! The soul of someone is eternal. What makes you, you, remains after death. Many people cross over and continue their professions, hobbies and interests after death, teaching other Spirits about it or through assisting and guiding those in Earth through their passion.
87. Ghost children remain banded together if they perished together.
This doesn’t just apply to children. Sometimes, people who pass over together, remain together in death, as well. Death, a powerful, emotional and transformative experience, is a bonding experiencing and dying with someone, brings your soul and theirs closer together. People don’t remain together after death because they are ‘stuck’ with this person, but more so, because they choose to stay with those who make them feel comfortable and safe.
88. Ghost visions can transport the empathic to strange and unusual places.
Spirits can communicate with you by giving you clairvoyant images to explain their messages, situation or whatever they would like you to know. Sometimes, this creates a sort of out of body experience in the person who is receiving the images. Thankfully, many mediums have developed a grounding practice after connecting with Spirit to ‘bring them back down to Earth’ after a connection.
89. Ghosts can reunite the living with long lost relatives.
They can. Spirits are very helpful most of the time.
90. Ghosts become restless if their bodies are not laid to rest in accordance with their desires.
Ghosts are people, remember. And, people can sometimes be controlling about what happens to them, their stuff and their belongings. If you know someone who was very particular, about their wishes, what they wanted to do and when, upon their crossing, try to honor these wishes. Yes, they often watch and are present for the burying, cremating and decision making process after their own death - as a Spirit. I have seen them at the funeral home, with the family, as a coffin is being picked out, noticing, trying to alert their living family of their preferences.
Is it a huge deal to every Spirit? No. Just to those who feel very strongly about what happens to their body after death. If a loved one has laid out a plan for you, if possible, please honor this. In most cases, your Loved One trusts you to make the right decision.
91. A birth in the world of the living can cause a spirit in the world of the dead to become active.
As can any special or family event! The deceased loved babies, especially grandchildren and are often present for the birth, to sing and watch over the baby to sleep a night and to provide emotional support to the mother, in the late hours of the night. Many mothers have seen, felt and heard the Spirits of their relatives in the nursery, especially during those late, quiet hours when Spirit loves to visit.
92. Ghosts play practical jokes on the living.
Some people are jokesters. And those people, also die. If your brother, uncle, father or cousin was a jokester, who loved practical jokes - they still love them. People don’t change in personality all that much when they cross, they simply lose their physical body. Most common jokes are moving objects of yours, scaring you in a traditional ‘ghostly’ manner or whispering your name.
93. If a ghost experienced addiction while alive, it can conjure up those symptoms when haunting a person.
Yes. If a ghost or Spirit had any illness at all, addiction included, it can produce symptoms in the living. Many mediums experience symptoms that relate to the cause of death of the Spirit communicator. Worst spirit-induced illness I’ve ever felt? Not a heart attack, though those are painful, but stomach ulcers. Asthma or inability to breath, while to painful, is the most frightening symptom given by a Spirit to express the identity of their cause of death.
94. Ghosts cannot take the living into the Light.
Earthbound Spirits, people who have not yet crossed over, otherwise known as Ghosts, cannot be present at someone’s death to cross them into the Light, because they don’t live there. Spirit Guides, Angels and crossed-over deceased Loved Ones can easily do this, as they live in the Divine Light.
95. Ghosts can mistakenly haunt the wrong house or the wrong person without being aware of it.
Yes. Accidents happen. Also, ghosts are purposely haunt a location where they did not originate or live on Earth, such as ‘haunted prisons’. Many times, there aren’t any ghost prisoners in such a place (all have gone to places where they’d rather be, such as with their families), but rather, jokester ghosts have migrated to and now occupy the place, simply to get a kick out of scaring the living. . .for fun. It’s weird, that’s for sure, but to each their own, I guess.
96. Ghosts have no sense of time.
I think this was already on the list - see #35 for my answer on this.
97. An earthbound spirit of a child may follow a living child home to play.
Yes. For friendship. It’s usually not malicious, but rather, out of loneliness and excitement alone, as many children can see Spirits.
98. Some earthbound spirits will attach themselves to their belongings, including a favorite charm or piece of jewelry.
Yes. People sometimes get really attached to their belongings and don’t want to give them up.
Also, sometimes, it’s simply a piece or fragment of the energy of that person, rather than their actual ghost. Think of it is residual energy of a person, rather than an actual person themselves. With each object we own and cherish, some of our energy, love and admiration goes into it and is directed to it. Thus, a piece of ourselves is with that object, perhaps unintentionally, even upon passing. This is the whole premise of the field of psychometry, getting psychic or spiritual information from objects.
99. Earthbound spirits get a lot of energy from crowds of people, i.e. hospitals, police precincts, and malls.
Yes, absolutely. Those Spirits still on earth have to get their energy somewhere, and it’s not from eating, drinking or sleeping. So usually, they can draw upon the energy lost from ourselves as we move through a space. The more people moving through a space, the more lost/released energy available for Spirits to use.
100. Ghosts typically do not hang around cemeteries because there is very little living energy there.
Yes and those that do, appear to be frozen in place - no energy to move.
And that's all the debunking of the ghost rules from 1-100!
Hope you enjoyed the series!
