The Most Difficult Thing About Being a Psychic Medium Isn't Readings - It's This.
amanda linette meder
When I first started embracing my abilities to communicate with Spirit, I thought, hands down, that the most difficult thing I would ever do was give a single reading to a skeptic.
Actually, I thought the readings themselves, were the most difficult things of all.
And in a way, they are. You have to stay intensely focused, speak really clearly and accurately (because people will call you out if you misspeak, even in the slightest way), and you are responsible for helping another person possibly give the last speech they’ll ever give to those that they love in the human world.
Let’s be honest here.
If you were going to give a speech to someone that you love and possibly treated unfairly while you were alive - there is a lot riding on a speech like that.
A lot of voice inflections that have to be portrayed, a lot of emotionality that has to come through to reflect the poignancy and genuineness of the message, and a lot of very specific details (where most of the time, you have no idea how important it is to specify that someone has a hunter green couch not a navy blue one), that have to be conveyed in order to validate the entire message.
It can be a lot of pressure on a medium. In fact, making sure you ‘get it right’ for someone else can be nervousness producing.
On top of that, you are taking the energy and entire being of a stranger into your own home or office and possible allowing them to use your body as a vehicle. There’s some real, definite risks in that action alone.
But in the process of giving readings, I found it’s actually not the readings at all that are the hard part.
It’s absorbing messages within those readings.
When you think about it like this - no one is going to waste their energy to come through as a Spirit without something highly meaningful, salient and profound to say. No. One.
And for this reason, major lessons of life and insight on how one should best live life are revealed in a reading.
And if you’ve ever had a reading - you know this fact very well. It’s emotional. It’s profound. It’s a lot to process. It takes time to integrate all of it. The act of receiving a reading can be very overwhelming on many fronts, which is why many people hesitate about getting a reading at all.
You have to be ready.
Now, imagine you are the medium. The one responsible for not only delivering YOUR life changing message, but the life changing message of at least 2 other people that day and 12 other people that week.
We hear those messages. We see the symbolism. We feel the emotion. And we too, have to grasp the concepts.
Many times, after your reading, we have to cry it out. We have to journal. We have to go for a long walk in nature or maybe take a few weeks off to contemplate.
We have to integrate those messages and try to apply those messages to our own lives and relationships. In fact, many mediums feel like the messages that are delivered to you in a reading, are actually messages for themselves, too.
Because really, aren’t universal truths . . .universal?
The reason we say at the end of your session that the messages and information revealed in your reading can take weeks, months and years to process - is because it’s true. You have to integrate what is said into your own life and begin to live in the way that you know is in alignment with your soul.
This takes time.
For example, imagine you received a message and your grandmother came through to say,
“Look, when I was alive, I spared everyone’s feelings out of being nice and never said what I really felt at all - in fact, I lived my entire life catering to the needs of others - and never to my own. I notice that you, my granddaughter, are following in my same footsteps and I’m here to tell you that it’s time to live differently. I want you to start speaking your mind, taking time for yourself and saying how you feel.”
Sounds easy, right?
Well, not really. What if you had been raised that a lady is always polite and cares about everyone else’s feelings first? What if when you did speak your mind, the people currently in your life told you that you were wrong, to shut up or reacted meanly?
Well, then you need time to slowly integrate this. Lots of it.
In readings, incongruencies are illuminated by those in Spirit to assist you in living a more authentic soulful life.
So, here we are - listening, absorbing, feeling, contemplating, deciding, hemming and hawing over your messages that are also profound messages for us.
And as a medium, we’re part of the you-Spirit cycle, and we can’t go along in our lives completely blind to the soulful messages we deliver to others, without also making changes to the way we live.
We can’t go tell someone (even if it’s their grandmother, not ours) to go out and courageously speak our truth, if we’re still afraid to say how we feel to our own partners.
We can’t go tell someone to be brave and find their soulmate and trust that they will come to them, when we ourselves still wonder if a soul mate really exists for us.
We can’t go tell someone to pursue the job of their dreams without fear (advice from a client’s father), when we still worry if people will book sessions with us or value our work.
The incongruencies, over time, become too much to bear. And we as mediums have to begin to integrate your messages, into our own lives.
The hardest part of being a medium isn’t giving readings.
It’s deciding to live in alignment the truthful messages given out through your own mouth. And taking the time to consciously do that.
So, if you are a medium and just now realizing that there are wise messages you’ve delivered, you are not yet honoring, don’t worry. You aren’t alone.
We’re all scared of what will happen if we change. All of us are.
So, here’s what you do.
Step 1. Stop ignoring the incongruencies.
You know what they are, because you can feel it.
If you’ve given 10 readings this week and 6 of them were related to a certain theme - this is a sign you need to be paying attention.
When you consciously ignore something in your physical life, it’ll come up in your spiritual life - so long as you interact there. This means, if there is something salient you are ‘not dealing with’ in your life because it’s too hard, scary, painful or heartbreaking to look at - you’ll be asked to look at it. It’ll show up in a dream, a reading or in a symbolism you notice.
Make no mistake about that. Mediumship is about your spiritual growth, too - not just for the growth of others independent of all else.
And sometimes, the things that you ignore are all the things you’ve been looking for without realizing it. If you’ve had a reading that causes you to question, ponder it. Contemplate it.
Journal it and ask yourself,
Why is this one something that is making me think so much? What illusion, incongruency or un-truth is it illuminating in my own life?
And then journal it out. Once you take a non-truth, and place it outside of yourself, not only is it infinitely much harder to ignore any longer - but then, and only then, do you have to consciously deal with it.
Step 2. One day at a time.
You don’t have to go out tomorrow and begin to scorch the town you live in with fireballs of realization regarding your own truths. But, you can take one step to say what you mean when you otherwise wouldn’t have.
You can, take one step to searching for jobs that are one level higher on the paying scale than you would normally seek out. You can, do something guided simply out of love and for no other reason at all.
You can take a single step and over time, single steps become miles, they lead to creeks and rivers you may have to walk through and get muddy feet. That’s fine, you can wash off and cleanse. They lead to ravines you must gap, and mountains you must climb to keep going.
You’re strong enough and by the time you get there, you’ll already have walked so far, you’ll know that you can jump over the gap - as long as you take a deep breath first.
Step 3. Take time to process your readings.
Take Spirits advice. Try out some of the things they recommend through you for others.
You don’t have to have everything figured out the day after the realizations were had. The unravelling of that ball of yarn is a process that takes time. You can plan, wonder, search and explore - and those are ALL steps forward. You can read books, try to understand or ask your Guides to assist you in formulating the meaning in your own messages, more.
If you have been getting repeat messages, it could be a sign of a new book coming through, or messages your Guides would like you to hear too. If the messages have been repeating for a while, not to worry, it doesn’t have to be all fixed tomorrow.
But if you’re feeling it and changing it daily, it’s working and you are getting the messages.
We can only help others to the extent that we are ourselves are willing to evolve.
Has Spirit given messages through you that made sense to you? If so, what did you do about this? How did you maximize the connection to serve humanity and yourself and in the greatest way? What was the most difficult message you delivered?
