A few years ago, I met a man named Dolphin.
He and I were both living at Mount Shasta, and he had one very specific rule about how he lived his life: no appointments before noon.
He strictly used and guarded his entire mornings for contemplative thought, something he did religiously, before taking in the energy of other people. At the time, I thought it was a little crazy, but at the same time, I kinda wanted to live my life like that, so today, I do.
One of the best parts about being a medium is that you are fully able to make your own schedule and now, I follow the Dolphin Way of Life.
I don't take any appointments before noon.
This gives me plenty of time to write, think about the world, and get my ideas fully together, before taking in the energy of others.
And this morning, I'd like to share those thoughts with you:
In my life, there have been ideas that I’ve long held about the truth of reality, and these ideas have changed.
Several years ago, I was awarded a Masters of Science from Auburn University and now I’m a professionally practicing psychic medium. Go from a scientist to a psychic, and your entire idea of what you know to be true gets run through a ringer.
And for the past several years, I’ve been thinking about that.
What did I once believe was true, that I now no longer believe?
As a scientist, I’ve been trained to think logically about things, to consider all of my options, and to rule out all variables, before making a final decision on what a truth may be. And now, as a psychic medium, who once spent her summers teaching botany classes, I’ve reevaluated my stance on the nature of reality.
Science is ever changing and theories only come together when a collective number of people have the same experience as one another, share that, and collaborate on it.
With no prior knowledge or intervention, I trust someone out there reading this, has experienced many of the same things I’m about to tell you and what I know to be true regarding the spirit world.
The spirit world is an alternate realm that hovers two to three feet above the physical ground. Have you ever seen a lake in the early morning, with its layer of mist hovering right above the surface? Imagine that, but invisible. That’s what the spirit world is. It’s right here, but it’s not here. And in some places, it is easier to feel.
There are places where these two realms overlap. On earth, there are places when land and water overlap and these places are called wetlands, swamps or estuaries, depending on where you live. And likewise, there are also places where land and spirit world overlap, and these places are called Thin Veil Locations.
Spirits don’t hang out in graveyards. I wish someone had told this to 16-year old me, but they didn’t. Or they did, and I didn’t listen. Either way, spirits are people and people hate to be alone. The more people are somewhere, the more spirits you’ll find there. Train stations, hospitals, and office buildings are prime spots. Not to mention, there’s lots of leftover kinetic energy for them to use there.
Spirits largely move around wherever they like. If you are out ghost hunting and you hear something upstairs and then you go upstairs and nothing is there - there’s a pretty good chance you weren’t imagining it, but rather, your girl has moved to another room. Spirits can be like cats in the way that if they don’t want to be bothered, they’ll move somewhere where they can’t be bothered. I respect them for that.
You can change the type of spirits that visit you by changing who you hang out with in your life. I said to a friend the other day about troublesome ghosts, “If you don’t have any trash, you’re not going to have any rats.” This is true. I’ve found that by cleaning up your physical life, you clean up your spiritual life, too. Stop hanging out with negative people, okay?
Any place can be spiritual once you make it so. You can take a trip to Lilydale, get a reading in Cassadaga or connect with the universal energies at Mount Shasta. You can move to Berkeley and enroll in psychic classes, or take a ten-day silent meditation retreat. But let’s be real. Any place that you move to can be spiritual. Simply by you moving there, it increases the spiritual vibration of the place and will draw in other spiritual people to live there.
Spirits come in from behind you. When I see spirits around people, they are ~ indefinitely ~ standing behind them. In readings, spirits come in from behind me, too. Most people don’t see Spirits because they stand behind them.
Spirit communication reminds me of the heat transfer process. When you stand close enough to a heat source, the energy waves float on over to you and it warms up your hands. Likewise, when you stand close enough to a spirit and they are emitting energy waves - in the form of sound, images, or emotion - you can sense that on your hands or with your body. Lots of people can feel spirits, but not everyone can see them (re: my last point).
Spirits talk really fast and they can be confusing as all get out. After my first 20 readings, a pattern emerged. The spirit people coming to my readings were saying things to my clients that they wish they’d said, but hadn’t, while alive. These were people who weren’t all that great at saying what they really meant while alive, and definitely they hadn’t changed in death. I’ve had to coach many a spirit person on how to talk about their feelings before their sessions began. Half of a medium’s job is training the spirit people how to be better communicators. Spirit people don’t die and suddenly know how to be spirit people - they have to learn the ropes.
Everyone has their ghost story and they’ll share it with you if you let them. It doesn’t matter how conservative, how much a non-believer, how much they roll their eyes at what you do, everyone has a story about something they can’t explain. As a medium, I get to hear a lot of these stories and it’s kind of fun.
Spirits are nice to you, if you are nice to them. A few weeks ago I was in an antique store when a deceased young woman in early 1900’s clothes shot up behind me and started acting all panicked. She led me to a photo album - an album that the owner of the shop had torn apart to sell by the sheet!
It was hers and she wanted me to:
- buy all the sheets
- put the album back together
- then drive up to a hill on the top of town, and place the complete album to rest at the base of a grave she would show me at the cemetery, at the top of the hill
Guys, I did this whole crazy thing. And all the while, she said she’d make it up to me. Later that night, I had an unusual avalanche of sales on my website, enabling us to pay some much-needed bills. Bingo, bango. Spirits can help.
In contrast to popular opinion, earthbound spirits are incredibly helpful. Being that they are literally here 24/7, spirit people who haven’t crossed over hold an incredible amount of information and they can be highly protective of their spaces and their people. As a medium, you’re they’re people. They are not to be disregarded.
You may be the Tom Brady of Mediumship, but someone still needs to teach you the plays. While it is true that there are some people have more of a natural affinity towards being sensitive to spirits than others, nearly every medium out there has to be taught how to use their gifts in order to truly help others. Whether they learn it in books, from free articles on the internet, from television shows watching other mediums, or through a private coach - you may very well be the Tony Hawk of our field, but someone, somewhere, had to teach you a few things. No one learns how to do what they do in isolation of all else.
When I think of the spirit world and it’s relationship to humans, I think of H2O molecules. Water can be seen when it’s in solid form. But in gaseous form, it can’t. Water turns to invisible gas when the water molecules heat up and vibrate faster, and as they do, they separate and become airborne. When the molecules vibrate slower, usually by cooling down, the molecules become solid, and because they become solid, they reflect light and therefore, we can see them. When spiritual people talk about how spirits are high vibration and we can’t see them, and people are low vibration and we can see them, I always think of it in the same way water works.
When the molecules vibrate really slow (meaning, they’re hardly moving), it’s a solid ice cube and we can see it. When they move fast, it’s mist and we can hardly see that. If you get confused about how spirits can exist, yet people can’t see them - just learn more about how water molecules work and you’ll be less confused.
Spirits are easiest to connect with when you aren’t stressed. In contrast to what most scientists say, I have never had a good experience trying to get information from a spirit when I’ve been descending a mountain at a high altitude, having an epilepsy, a stroke, or a migraine. The more relaxed and focused I am, the easier it is to communicate with spirits. There are even brain scans to show this. And, while there are plenty of explanations as to how someone can think they saw a spirit when they didn’t, there is currently no present explanation for the stream of accurate information mediums all over the world receive after they positively identify a dead person. None. At all. Hey science...something unexplained is happening here….
The spirit world, just like the physical world, evolves. Things that were considered true in 1863 are no longer true today. Things are evolving over there, along with everything else that is also evolving here. What may have been true about the spirit world in the Victorian Era, may not necessarily be true today.
Did you know Abraham Lincoln loved mediums and frequently attended seances with his wife, while he was president?
Did you know the famous Fox Sisters who are commonly crowned as bringing Spiritualism to the US made a confession that their spirit communications were all lie, but that they were poor at the time and bribed to do so with $1,500, which is actually $40,000 in today's dollars? Or that, they weren't the only ones who heard the rapping in the home - that two previous homeowners moved out, because they were so disturbed by the noises?
Did you know that before electricity, one of the most popular evening activities was communicating with spirits?
And finally, did you know that many of the mediums I train, have advanced degrees in science?
We can’t all be crazy.
It is because I know that so many scientific theories were once disregarded and resisted, are now accepted as fact, I really don’t think we’re too far off from accepting the existence of spirits and their realms.
Science is just now beginning to study things like collective consciousness, the pineal gland, and blind sight, and making the links between the physical and the nonphysical every day. And while I hope that one day I’ll live in a world where the spirit world has been accepted by science, honestly, having it still be a mystery is kind of fun.
It’s like we’re still on the journey of discovery.
And I’m right on the cutting edge.
